Okay I would never condone this violence towards children, but there's something fishy to this story.I can't help to think theres something more to this story...

Its the first one about the 8 year old.

The link you provided is one where the stories move down the page as new headlines are added.

Here is the permanent link to the article I think you wanted to discuss.

It is a little hard to say what happened, it's a very brief article. I find it very sad, though.

Doesn't matter if there's more to the story or not.
Seems to me that there is really no excuse for a teacher to give a student a black eye.

I am sure the child probably didn't tell the whole story, or softened his own actions a bit, but if one is going to be teaching children, then it is expected that one would have the patience and self control to handle difficult situations such as a stubborn 8 year old, possibly refusing to put their crayons away or deliberately breaking one out of defiance.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Hell yes, there's more to this story.

But whatever prompted it, nothing will justify it.

i agree, it sounds like there's more to the story.

and... im also wondering if the teacher really did punch him.

i can imagine a scenario where ... kid refuses to put crayon back, teacher tries to take it out of the kids hand, kid struggles and yanks back hard... and of course pulls the teachers hand into his own eye. Thus, the teacher hit him in the eye and the crayon broke, right?

not saying the teacher is innocent and didn't punch him on purpose... jsut wondering what really happened and what wasn't said.

            The back story doesn't matter.

Bottom line, the kid ended up with a black eye, supplied by the teacher.

There is no justifying his motive for doing so. Period. If you really have such a hard time controlling your temper, you have no business being a teacher. End of story.

My roommates granddaughter came here with a scar under her eye and nose. Appearntly her principal dropped a board on her. Boy was she sorry and embarressed. I keep trying to tell the kid that the principal did it on purpose, but she doesn't belive me

On that side note of 8 year olds, anyone else read that the 8 year old murderer is getting a plea bargin?

I was going to say that "but what if he didn't really hit him" again

but then i re-read the article and saw this...

David Adam Grant, 36, a teacher at Sunland Elementary School, turned himself in to police Tuesday in connection with the incident November 5, police said in a written statement.
So yeah, you don't turn yourself in if you're innocent.

Bleh. There's other ways to deal with kids who are misbehaving.

If the Police are "looking for the person concerned" in regards to "questions related to the incident" and you have nothing to hide, you "turn yourself in" to them.

Turning in doesn't necessarily mean "I did something bad and I should hang for it". It can mean "I'm the person you're looking for, and here's what you need to know really happened". It can also mean "I did a bad thing completely accidentally and I feel really guilty about it".

Until and unless the news media comes out with the teacher's side of this, I'm reserving judgment on whether he's a Bad Person. I know I said nothing would justify it, and nothing does 'justify' giving a kid a black eye. If it was, say, accidental, then it's still bad to have allowed the situation to develop where that could happen accidentally. But it's a heck of a long way from child abusing miscreant.

In defense of the teacher, I've given a kid a black eye before, same thing as was described, kid and I were wrestling for something, slipped and hit him in the face, nothing malicious about it.
