  • New minimal wage in Oregon.

    http://www.portlandtribune.com/news/...75957007311100

So its jumping to 8.40 an hour.

So, despite the fact I've work at my place for many, many years, a new hire will be making as much money as I do now within a year.

I had that same experience when they increased the Californian minimum wage a couple of years ago.

Made me feel like I'd worked for nothing. Like my raises meant nothing.

at least you got to keep your raises. when the Fed minimum went up in July us drivers making under min got kicked up to min but lost our raises. I should be making like 75 cents more per hour than I am

        Lost your raises???

Uh I dont think it's legal to do that.

If you make a business deal with your employer and you both agree on a set wage your employer simply cannot renege on that just to "save money".

Now, if you were demoted from one job position to another that's a different story.

The following post is brought to you courtesy of the managers that need to be shot
Oh it's the "in" thing! You see it's like this:
          - You started at min wage when min wage was $5/hr
          - You get raises so you make $6.50/hr
          - Min wage goes up to $7/hr, so you now get paid $7/hr

Aren't you lucky? You get an extra $.50/hr on your paycheck now!

Although in reality, to keep your raises, you should be making $8.50/hr

Ya'd think so wouldn't ya? But since your still above minimal wage, corporate isn't breaking any laws. So, you make minimal wage, at say, 7 bucks. Minimal goes up to 8 bucks, so you now get 8 bucks because its the law.
However, Billy Bob, who makes 8.05, doesn't go up to 9.05, he keeps 8.05 because tis above minimal wage.

Yeah, that does suck. FL's min. wage went to 7.21...I started at work three years ago at 6.40 and now I make 7.84.

I get a 10 cent raise each year (the bigger raises I had came when I moved into a higher risk job.) So, at the rate that Florida keeps jacking up the min wage...(last year it was 6.79), I will soon be making just min. wage.

They say that FL wages are determined by cost of living...it would be nice if everyone got a cost of living wage increase. Oh well.
