  • Stolen: "A significant amount" of Susie B Dollar Coins

    http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/con...brinksweb.html

Police and the FBI are asking the public to be on the lookout for anyone attempting to buy big-ticket items with coin following a break-in at the Brinks Inc. vault here over the weekend.

    ...............

The burglars then entered a coin room, where they stole "a significant amount" of Susan B. Anthony $1 coins and 50-cent pieces.
The heck? Who uses Susie B coins anymore? All I get is the odd Presidential Dollar Coin or Sackie.

Someone thinking they're more valuable than they actually are? I bet they'll end up on eBay or a coin store. If he's smart - he'll sell 1-10 at a time and that's it. Maybe the occasioal lot of 25 or 50.

...My mom is one of the ones that thinks they'll be worth more than they are. Along with the bicentenial quarters and the JFK half-dollar coins.

HEY! I like those Bicentennial quarters! I've also noticed the "older generation" has an affection for JFK half dollars - even my parents love them. As for the SBA dollars - I think the first minting of them are worth something (1979?) but that's it - the others might be worth $1.25 to a collector if it is in excellent+ condition.

I'm sure people will look at the state quarters in the next few years the same way, too.

I just get silver proof sets each year (well, two now, one for me, one for my nephew).

Here in Portland, those and the Sacagewea dollars are always given as change at MAX stations. All the Max station ticket machines are equipped to spit them out instead of dollar bills, so if you ride public trans here, which most people do, you usually have a collection of them in your wallet.

MAX are the trains that run through Portland and suburbs.
Because as we all know, on the Internet all men are men, all women are men and all children are FBI agents.

Uh... I still use those coins. I get them at the bank and the post office.

I save them during the year and use them on Pirate Day for ALL my purchases. Pirate hat included.

My dad went to the bank and got a roll of those Sacagewea dollars when they first came out. He hands me the roll and says "Put this away...They'll be worth a lot more some day". I still have them, still wrapped up, in my "Picachu" bank.
