      And sometimes rules really should be bent. I'm sure it would have been cheaper for the company in this case... but they had to follow their rules so...

                            No, it's an oldie (but not a goodie). I haven't worked retail in 20 years, but I remember seeing that on occasion. If you think about it, it's rather brilliant (yeah, I know, I'm calling SCs brilliant. ) They don't have to try to hide the shoes; they just have to try the shoes on out of sight of the employee(s), and count on the fact that most people aren't going to be observant enough to notice that they're wearing different shoes than they came in with.

                                This sounds a bit like my former supervisor Cheese on Bread. They forgot to pay the cell phone bill for the command duty phone and it was shut off until they pulled their heads out of their asses and paid the bill.
