Er, I don't want to discuss whether the legality of the act is morally correct or not or whether the law should be changed. It's a simple question of what is the current law regarding this? I'm perfectly happy for there to be no discussion *about* the law at all. Do I really have to go somewhere else for that?

How about a giant Monty Python foot coming down from the ceiling?Quoth Mr Slugger View PostYou know there's only two things that could make that better.
1. After the wall comes up walls come from the side.
2. And after that one from above

On the one hand, ouch. The wall slammed the guy in the trachea. I too am surprised he lived. On the other hand, you live by the sword, you die by the sword. You wannabe a tough badass big shot criminal, be prepared to get your ass stomped someday, and don't expect anybody to feel sorry for you.I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I think on one hand there's the "I put the wall up to block people from robbing me I didn't expect them to get caught in the machinery." Kinda like if they shot at the say bullet proof glass and it ended up hitting them. But on the other hand I could see someone trying to sue because they got hurt, and it wouldn't be the first time.Quoth One-Fang View PostEr, I don't want to discuss whether the legality of the act is morally correct or not or whether the law should be changed. Chances are it would end up with some kind of settlement, because if that went to court it would be tough to get a jury to award money for that, because he DID jump over the counter."It takes people like you, to make people like me" Another Night In London - Devildriver

In my part of the world at least, it's legal but you have to have warning signs.Quoth One-Fang View PostEr, I don't want to discuss whether the legality of the act is morally correct or not or whether the law should be changed. I worked at a convenience store that had one, except ours was clear glass 2 inches thick. It only got activated twice that I know of: once when a worker locked himself out of the behind the counter area and bumped the button while climbing back over the counter (he was clear of it by then, so no injury) and once when an angry SC tried to strangle a worker, and instead got a broken arm.
It also activated a silent alarm which got the cops there within 2 minutes. And it works by way of a pneumatic ram under the counter.

Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to separate whether the act is legal from discussions about whether it should be, especially as depending on the area, laws would be different, and the very nature of the situation can affect the legality, thus turning in to a conversation about under what circumstances it would be allowable where. This isn't what the thread is about, so we'd prefer to not have that conversation here.Quoth One-Fang View PostEr, I don't want to discuss whether the legality of the act is morally correct or not or whether the law should be changed. As you can see, this statement:
is fine on its own, but could easily prompt someone to respond "That's stupid, the guy shouldn't get anything!" And then we're off to the races. Directing people to Fratching isn't just about keeping immediately debatable topics off the board, it's to keep people from opening the door for someone else to walk through sometimes, too.Chances are it would end up with some kind of settlement, because if that went to court it would be tough to get a jury to award money for that, because he DID jump over the counter.Last edited by Rapscallion; 03-08-2009, 10:08 PM.
