  • A Priest Takes A Stand For The Homeless

With the bad economy and all the homeless having nowhere to go, this priest takes a stand for the homeless in the courts. This makes me have more faith in humanity.

Wow. It seems like he's no newbie to local politics, either. That is awesome that he's standing up for people who can't and I wish him the best of luck.

The mayor doesn't get it. A lot of people may feel safer on church property, especially those who have never needed a homeless shelter before.

I have no possible idea what makes people think a church car park is "safer". I don't think feeding that delusion is a helpful idea.

I do support his refusal to place up a sign, just not that anyone should encourage anyone else to feel "safer" in a car park because it belongs to a church.

For centuries, churches have always been considered a safe haven and a place of sanctuary.

While using the church parking lot isn't a guarantee of complete safety, not everyone is jaded and cynical and lacking in respect for what a church represents, so it does allow a certain degree of peace of mind, even if it is not a major amount.

Obviously, since it is a church lot and the priest is aware of what is happening, more attention is being paid to that particular lot. It is certainly safer when compared to just parking in some alley or side street, or a shopping mall parking lot.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Unless it's under video surveillance or has a security guard, I'm going to disagree with you there.

I just don't trust the underbelly of society with that much respect for faith or belief.

That would be your opinion and you're entitled to it.

            I happen to believe otherwise.

I guess I still have some part of me that doesn't want to become so negative and defeatist and prefers to think that there is some measure of respect for the institution of the church.

...And, for the record, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there was video surveillance.

That being said, we both have our opinions, and debating is for fratching, so let's drop the issue.
