  • Cabbie sues women who falsely accused him of sexual assault

    http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=...a-c3688217c23d

Long story short--one of the girls tried to light a cigarette, he said no, they asked to be let out. Later, one of the girls said he had sexually assaulted them, the cabcam proved otherwise, charges were never filed. Rightly pissed, duder rejects their apology and sues them.

Good for him. Hopefully these cunts will get the book thrown at them HARD.

I'll never understand why some women have to make false accusations like that...

While I agree they're in the wrong, $60k in "damages"? What damages? He was held up for a few minutes while cops were called, and no charges were actually filed. He did not have any actual "damages" that I can see.

I can't believe the cops didn't take the girls down for making a false police report.

          non video version
I had to look it up because the video doesn't like my system...

I think I might know why the cops didn't press charges though.

Before the cops had gotten to the cab, the girls and their public claims of sexual molestation had already gotten a mob formed around the cab. I suspect the police were afraid of being torn apart by the public if they had obeyed the law and charged the girls.

but yes they should have charged them. it's girls like that who make the rest of the public think "oh they're crying wolf" when other girls claim of being molested. they use their sexuality to force others to do what they want, otherwise they'll claim molestation.

As for the 60K? No... I do think they should be fined, but not that much.

But what I'd rather see is that they get forced to do community service... helping out at a rape trauma center or battered women's shelter. They want to lie and cry "rape"? They need to see what REAL victims go through.

This happens a lot more often than people think. It also happens quite a bit to teachers who get falsely accused by students, usually in grades 7-9.

It really sucks that there are women and girls that try to exploit the system like this since it was put in place to protect them. They should be sued and thrown in jail as far as I know.

I think the damages are due to the amount of people that saw what he looked like. That, plus a bit of punative damages to teach them a lesson that hurts the pocketbook.

One possibility occurs to me : He could be seeking punitive damages.

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punitive_damages

Punitive damages aren't about compensating a plaintiff for any loss. They're intended to punish a defendant for particularly egregious conduct, and to deter the defendant (and other people) from committing such actions in the future.

                Is $60,000 per defendant excessive?

                <Shrug>

Maybe I've become a bit cynical over the years, but . . . As I look at it, I can't help but feel that even if it is excessive, it's not excessive by all that much.

These four young women called their friends and formed what the cab driver called a "mob" surrounding him, insisting that he sexually assaulted them. The cab driver could have been beaten up, seriously injured, or even killed, depending on how far the situation escalated.

If he hadn't had that videotape to prove his innocence, the cab driver could have been arrested and sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Even if he wasn't convicted, his reputation would have been destroyed. He very likely would have lost his job and had a very hard (if not impossible) time finding another job.

And he would have spent the rest of his life under a dark cloud of suspicion from people who believe that "Where there's smoke, there's fire" and insist that he couldn't possibly be completely innocent if he was accused of sexually assaulting four girls.

What these young women did could have easily destroyed an innocent person's life. The fact that they failed to make their false charges stick (due to the cab driver having the means to prove his innocence) is hardly a redeeming factor.

That being the case . . . I find it difficult to say that $60,000 is all that excessive. Maybe it is, but not by much.
“Excuse me. Is this bracelet real jade?”
“Ma’am, this is a thrift shop. The tag on the bracelet says $1.50. It comes with a matching mood ring. What do you think?”
                “I don’t know.”
                “Yes, it’s real.”

Looking at it again.. they're lucky he's not suing for more. Me... I would have gone for the jugular and sued for $10m, plus make it a secured debt so they can't declare bankrupsy.

Not only didn't commit, but that didn't even happen.

The lying beyotches should have been arrested. Not only did they endanger the cabbie's livelihood and possibly his life, they wasted police time. The 60K number is probably just to scare them, he'll probably settle for much less. Good I say, they deserve to sweat the way they made the innocent cabbie sweat.

I have to admit the $60K is a bit excessive, but the motive for it I don't blame the cabbie at all. The sad thing is once somebody is accused of any kind of sexual crimes, especially if there's no evidence that person's life would be ruined in the worst way. I hope those bitches get the book thrown at them for what they did.

The charges don't need to stick. The mere accusation is enough to destroy someone's life.

I support this guy 100%. If it weren't for the camera, the accusations of sexual assault would've stood up, at least at first.

And his life would be over, either by the mob around his cab or by the accusations that would be taken as proof of wrongdoing and follow him around for the rest of his life.

These girls need to be taught that sexual assault accusations are not a frivolous thing.
