  • Rumor of Alien movie remake: The Horror

    http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/16348

Please, tell me this rumour is false. Tell me that one of the greatest sci-fi horror movies of all time, second only to its kickass sequel, is NOT being remade by the steaming pile of mediocrity-laced bullshit that Hollywood has become?

I can see the nightmare already. All the grizzled 30-40-something characters will be recast as a bunch of rambunctious teenagers on their first assignment. The Space Jockey and the Alien will be all-CGI-shitstains, and Ripley v2 will probably be played by Megan Fox, along with an extended scene in the shuttle where she fights the alien in her skimpy underwear.

    I need a barf bucket.

Noooooo!!! Don't let this be true!!!

Who on earth are they going to cast that could possibly outdo the originals? Um, no one. But this being Hollywood and all, it will probably end up being something like this:

    Kristen Stewart as Ripley
    Zac Efron as Dallas
    Shia LaBeouf as Ash
    Chase Crawford as Kane
    Hilary Duff as Lambert
    Corbin Bleu as Parker
    Kevin Jonas as Brett

Ridley Scott is spinning in his grave and he's not even dead.

I question my sanity every day. Sometimes it answers.

      Zac Efron as Dallas
His presence alone would convince me to watch a remake. The Trek remake would have been nothing without him.

I would still need a barf bag though

If they can cast Paris Hilton as the first victim, I'm there!

What's wrong with the original that they feel the need to remake it? Somebody ought to take a bunch of face-huggers & plop them all down at Hollywood...lol.

Well, based on the link you provided, I can tell you that Alien is NOT being remade. That article implied that the movie in question would be an Alien prequel, and perhaps a series reboot, but not a remake of the original per se.

Now while I do believe that Sigourney Weaver made that role her own, I have to say that if you were going to have a young up and coming actress reprise the role in a prequel, Fox would be one of the better choices. Yeah, she's a hottie, but she also happens to have some grit to her, as Weaver did in '79. And hell, Weaver did some of those scenes in skimpy attire, as I recall. Would Fox be able to nail the role as Weaver did? Who knows? But I think she would be as good a bet as any other young actress, and probably better than most.

But if this were a prequel and not a remake of the original, you can bet that none of the original cast would be re-cast, as none of them would have been involved in any encounter with the Alien species prior to the events of the original film, reboot or no.

Nothing... but very few of the current 'target audience' (teens) knows what the movie is. Even though they have really seen dozens of movies that 'paid homage to', 'alluded to' and blatently ripped off the original, they don't know what it is, and are too lazy to go rent or buy it.

Besides, it more than 20 years old... it couldn't be THAT good if their parents liked it, right?

Truthfully, I'm not surprised... the one that cheesed me off is the announced remake of "The Host", a movie that came out in American theatres in 2007.

Alien was released on May 25, 1979, making it *gasp!* 30 years old this year.

Gosh, The Matrix is 10 years old now. It's ancient. I'm sure Keanu Reeves is shopping around for the nursing home as we speak.

                    * makes mental note to watch Alien this weekend.

and Jack Black as the alien.

I wonder if the prequel would be avp related.

I don't disagree. My problem is Fox is too young to credibly play the 3rd-in-command officer of a deep-ranged mining starship. What, did she jump from middle school straight to the astronaut corps? I had the same problem with the Trek remake, Kirk v2 was far too young to be a Captain.

"What, you put her in charge?!" - Hudson, Aliens

Ironically, many moons ago when I was in highschool, I wrote the beginnings of a sci-fi novel for my creative writing course project. My teacher commented that my early-twenty-some characters were far too young to be qualified astronauts. But I was a dumb teenager then. What's Hollywood's excuse?

As for a possible AvP prequel, I'd still need the barf-bucket. The one and only time I have ever seen the premise executed properly was the novel AvP: Prey, by Steve & Stephanie Perry. Why couldn't Hollywood have made their novel into a movie?

Oh I know, Hollywood didn't want to pay them royalties. Or the Perry's knew what kind of malformed turd Hollywood would make of their work, and told them to go to hell. If so, I can hardly blame them.

                          This does not bode well.
