For those who can't see the link in the original post of the logos across the years, courtesy of BBC America:

    Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
    DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

and as for the number of lives, in one episode (possibly the final Sylvester McCoy one) the Master attempted to reset his regenerations by sacrificing a human to the the Eye of Harmony. Or more accurately to the TARDIS carried mathematical model of the Eye which actually resides beneath Gallifrey.
You've got it almost right... that story WAS Sylvester McCoy's last appearance as The Doctor... in the 1996 TV movie! It also featured Eric Roberts (yes, THAT Eric Roberts) in his one and only appearance as The Master.
"Eventually one outgrows the fairy tales of childhood, belief in Santa and the Easter Bunny, and believing that SCs are even capable of imagining themselves in our position."

Really? After the season 4 finale my sister and I agreed that the Doctor needed to be put on suicide watch since every season seems to be How Much Further Can The Doctor Be Pushed Until He Snaps.

Perhaps I'm missing something; I've only seen the new seasons and I saw those in one big lump over the summer.
The problem I have is that quite a lot of season 4, and especially the specials are basically the same thing.

Ordinary people thrown in some weird situation, the Doctor reminds them how wonderful and unique they are, insert weird/horrible/cute monsters, a couple of deaths, Doctor is able to solve the problem with one sentence of techno-babble, episode ends. Also throw in a couple of things that might make kids go "Ooooo" like that flying bus in the last special. That made me cringe.
