Wow, yesterday she was a depression close to the shores of Nicaragua (sp?).

Today, she hasn't made landfall and she's a Cat 1 hurricane.

Okay, I do NOT like where this one is headed, but I suppose that it's not going to get that strong even if it makes it to the Gulf and makes a beeline north. If it was earlier in the year, I'd be a lot more worried.

looks like it'll just give us some rain here in the mountains..if that...we normally get nothing but rain if they come up from the gulf. come up the atlantic? bright sunny skies a light breeze and nothing...never mind theres a cat ANYTHING on the other side of the mountains.

and no I'm not worried about global warming...ocean front property for me if the icecaps melt!

there's been almost nothing to watch this year.

Edit: We could use her rain.

So...looks like I might get a glancing blow and she'll just be a tropical storm. I suppose the rain is a good thing. Perhaps I can get a day off from school. (Is that bad of me to wish for that?)

"Ida" is the name that replaced Hurricane Ivan...that storm was pretty bad.

According to the maps a few days ago she was supposed to be a depression by now. Now, we're looking at a Cat2 tomorrow. They're expecting her to be a tropical storm again by the time it gets near to land but who knows.

I don't think those of us in south Florida and those of you in the eastern gulf can take our eyes off of her yet.

It's like playing Russian roulette - where will she stop?

Edit: See? 6am CST update - spinning in the gulf heading back south.
9am CST update - making landfall near the FL / AL border as a Cat 1 then going across northern FL.

Just like Ike last year. We were 48 hours away from landfall in Ft Lauderdale as a Cat 5- we had our water stored, shutters up, and were about to leave for our friends in Orlando. Less then 12 hours before we were going to leave the track adjusted WAY south and we monitored it all night.

We still should have gone to Orlando, though.

Edit: Hurricane watch has been issued for the LA / AL coastlines - I'm sure FL's panhandle will be in the next update.

Right now, looks like we are going to get a direct hit. I'm surprised it is as strong as it is...I mean, it's not too bad, compared to what we have had in the past, but it's very surprising!

                    Hurricane party at my house!

The area is already in freak out mode, btw. I went to get gas on the way home from church because I had less than a fourth of a tank and all but one pumps was out of unleaded regular. I was fine with mid grade though. XD I had to wait. In a line. On a SUNDAY.

Two counties have cancelled school for both Monday and Tuesday. My school hasn't announced anything and, fittingly, their server has apparently crashed. Voluntary evacuations of coastal dwellers.

My hurricane prep is going to be to bring the patio umbrella in and turn over the chairs.
