    Check out this link...

My favorite quotes from this guy's story:

It’s an unpleasant fact of life that sometimes we must shop at Wal-Mart

...forced to by greeters armed with spear guns, one must assume.

Sometimes it’s worth being an ass just to see the response on people’s faces.

While I can sympathize with the writer, up to a point, his "smarter-than-thou" tone and his penchant for harassing people just trying to do their jobs tends to dry up my sympathy very quickly.

I am composing an e-mail to the writer. I wanna know why he insists on the low prices that are allowed by the reduction of theft, when he can go somewhere that doesn't check receipts and pay for the loss due to shoplifting.

You can't have it both ways, rock bottom prices and no security.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

Urge to kill snooty butthole, rising.

Seriously, what a freaking ass. What the heck is wrong with him?

I bought a blanket today at walmart. It came in a plastic case that was zipped off. The cashier opened it and checked inside. I smiled and waited. Heck knows who could have put something in there? I mean, I wouldn't but some jackass might have. There not accusing him of shoplifting, just making sure he isn't /forgetting/ to pay for something XD.

I understand the guy's point and I think he makes a valid one. But I'll admit he's being an ass about it, but that irritates me too that they do that to you at the door when you're leaving. But my thing would be that I'll just take my business somewhere else.

While I can appreciate what he's saying, he's taking it out completely on the wrong people. One, he needs to complain to the corporate entities that make the rules and ride their associates' asses for not following them. Two, he needs to point the finger directly at the many, many people who think it's ok to stuff something in a pocket, a retailer's bag that they brought with them, or every other possible way they can to rip off a store. They are the ones ultimately responsible for making the stores the way they are now, and if he doesn't like it, well fine, shop at higher end retailers then.

The fact of the matter is that the problem isn't retailers. It's society as whole. We live in a world where people steal stuff. It's a fact of life. Store security is a syptom of the problem; not the cause. It is a store's legal right to protect itself from theft. Just as it is the custoemr's right to not shop there. If you choose to shop at Store X, and you know store X has certain security measures in place, then you are tacitly agreeing to abide by them.

This is also yet another case of someone who has never worked in retail. No, you DON'T get it. You just THINK you do.

Personally, I'd like to see this guy try this routine at an airport metal detector.

Wow, talk about apropos. I just went to wally's tonight and bought four items at the self check-out. Two of those items were way oversized and would not fit in the bags that they have at the SCO, so I just put them back in the cart and headed out.

As I walked toward the exit, a nice older gentleman who worked there came running up behind me and said, Excuse me sir, I need to see your receipt. He was very courteous and I understood exactly why he needed to see it. It was just no big deal, so I handed it to him, he looked it over, he handed it back, and wished me goodnight. The end.

So why whine about it? Let's turn it around - if you're on my property where I sell goods, and I don't know for sure if you've paid for the goods you're carrying away, I don't see what the big deal is about me asking you to confirm that you have indeed paid for them. This is not about accusing you of stealing, this is about securing my own property against those who would steal it.

It's an unpleasant fact of life we must sometimes deal with assholes like David Pelfrey.

Why would he get bent out of shape about something like this unless he had something to hide or had it in for Wal-Mart to begin with?

He seems to suggest that if you should go out the door and the sensor goes off, you should take off running. Yeah, that won't attract suspiscion.

Instead of blaming the big faceless corporation for having sensors and security, maybe he ought to blame the people who made a habit of stealing and required the stores to have the sensors and security to protect themselves. But I guess it's just more "politically correct" to blame the store.

Irving, if I've not said it yet, I'll say it now...you are brilliant.

Dave1982 is absolutely correct: by shopping at Store A or Store B we do enforce, through our custom, that store's policies, including security. If the David Pelfreys of the world (and you just know that there's a gaggle of them out there somewhere) are truly ignorant of where these policies originate, I believe we have a long line of CS forum members willing to participate in a mass re-education.

Why thank you. Sometimes it's hard to be a super genius but your compliment makes it all worthwhile.

Anyhoo, here's my funny security sensor story...

I bought a pair of jeans off the internet. I wore them to the mall, walked into a store, and BOOP BOOP BOOP--the alarm went off.

Nobody at that store seemed to notice or care, so I assumed somebody else set it off. I went into another store and BOOP BOOP BOOP, again the alarm went off. Double

A clerk approached me and was really cool about the whole thing. I made my purchases and she told me "Just watch, you're going to set off the alarm again! BOOP BOOP BOOP--she was right.

Later when I got home I found the culprit--a security tag, stiched into the jeans, which was clearly marked with instructions to remove the tag before washing or wearing.

I dont like it. What irritates me is that why do I have to stand in another long line and wait around to "verify" that I paid for everything??? Just because there's a few jerks out there that steal things means that I have to submit to being searched and seized at any time??? I'll be glad to debate this on the "Fratching" board.

He had better not come to the Walmarts around here then. If he decides not to stop, they will pull you up on there parking lot cameras and trace your license plate to your house, and they will follow you to your house and you will have the police at your house checking your stuff. I know this, cause I pulled the same stunt and this is what happened. They also did the same thing cause they saw hickeys on my daughters necks and though that there was something wrong happening at home. They had the cops and social services at my house. Needless to say, I was severely pissed that day.

Also, there are actual cops stationed at all 5 Walmarts around me, along with store security.

Sounds to me like the Walmarts in your area are looking for a lawsuit.
