She might be innocent . . . I honestly have no idea.
For the most part, this looks to me like a case of "he says, she says," and who can claim to know for sure what really happened?
Ultimately, the truth exists only in the minds of the people who were actually there.
The fact that she took a plea bargain doesn't necessarily mean that she's guilty. It could just be that her nerves finally crumbled under the pressure.
When you're faced with the prospect of spending 15 years in prison, and then somebody offers you a way to get out of this with just a few days in jail instead . . . It's going to look awfully tempting, even if you're really innocent.
However . . . If there is any chance that you might want to take a plea bargain at some point, then for crying out loud, don't say things like "Why would you take a plea bargain if you're innocent?" to the media.
She and her supporters kept saying things like "She was taught to never admit guilt when you're innocent" and "She shouldn't spend 15 minutes, let alone 15 years, in prison" in front of crowds of people, in front of television cameras . . .
When you say stuff like that, you are pretty much committing yourself to fighting to the end, come what may. Saying all of those things and then copping a plea . . . That just looks really, really bad.
