      i always wondered about the whole "wearing an uber powerful ring into battle" thing...seems rather silly. and dangerous.

          I know wearing magic rings is a staple of Dungeons & Dragons characters, but I also assumed that they wore their rings under their gauntlets.

          Also, wasn't the Ring designed with a simple appearance simply for the point of not looking like anything special and powerful? "Oh, this gold band? It's nothing. Got it out of a box of Cracker Jack." Kind of ruins the effect when everyone still knows it's an artifact of doom.
          "IT stands away, interrupting himself from the incessant hammering of the kittens…"

              Also considering he's wearing a black metal armor and wielding a weapon of the same metal, while the ring is a nice golden color and glowing. Kinda seems suspicious, huh?
