Why does the happy meal toy look so sad?
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

It was all alone for a year, with no-one to play with. And it wasn't allowed to eat, but had food staring at it.

It's all about moisture content, and keeping it. Fries and such don't have that much to begin with and dry out quickly, so they don't easily grow mold and rot unless they're kept in a damp place. The year-old food is gross, but the fact that it didn't turn green isn't; it's the same principle that lets us store things like sugar, rice, and flour, and the reason things like raisins were invented.
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

Better yet, stick it in a time capsule. Then our descendants 1,000 years from now can look back at us and hang their heads in shame.
