  • Conflicting reports about a Dr Who movie.

This article says they've tapped Johnny Depp to play the good Doctor.

In this article, the BBC says there is no such plans.

Hmmmmm.... I'm torn between wanting to see Depp as Dr Who and not wanting another American DH travesty produced.

Besides, The Doctor should always have a British accent.

i love johnny depp. i love pretty much everything he's done. i think he's a brilliant actor. that being said, i don't want him to play The Doctor. personally, i love matt smith as the doc. he's doing a fantastic job and if they do a big-screen movie, they should cast him.

There was a one-off attempt at a re-launch of the franchise back in '96 staring Peter Cushing as The Doctor

Actually, according to the Wikipedia article, the BBC actually did have something to do with it, but it was as American as apple pie and showed it. Noting that Fox had it's hands in it only confirms my statement that it was crap.

I do not recognize that movie as being part of the Doctor Who series, simply because it was so terrible. I refuse to let it into the house because it was that bad. Fox messed this up and thank goodness Fox pulled out of the making of an American version of Torchwood. That would have been a mess.

Pssst - not Peter Cushing. Paul McGann. I highly recommend Lesbian Vampire Killers.

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

See, I loooooved Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor. Just didn't like the movie he was in. I think he did brilliantly with what little he had. I adored the TARDIS interior and his outfit.

And, BLAH to Johnny playing the Doctor. I love him and all, but I'd take Matt Smith over him as the Doctor any day.

Though, I'd love to see Matt Smith and company in a big screen flick. That would be fun.

            Most people don't, including me.

Ok, different sites quote different actors. IMDB says McGann, Wikipedia says Cushing. I was only going on what Wiki said. I watched it once when it was on TV, and never again.

Oooh, you are talking about those 1960's Dalek movies.

I've never seen them but I heard they are really weird.

Paul McGann's Doctor Who movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_(1996_film)

I also own a couple of Eighth Doctor's radio dramas...I really do like Eight. You know, watching that movie (as bad as it was) got me into Doctor Who.

Ahhh, I had forgotten about the 1960's movie (there is more than one?), or perhaps blocked it out as one does with traumatic events. I was actually talking about the McGann one from 1996, and linked to it above.

Just wanted to drop this off. Haven't seen any Dr. Who (but REALLY REALLY want to, it's just that my DVD and gaming backlog is amazingly clogged right now and there's just nowhere to pick up Dr Who). Depp IS going to be the Doctor on the big screen.

Apparently you can watch Doctor Who and the Daleks thanks to Hulu (with limited commercial interruption). http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi4137682713/

Sorry to say, but that article is dated, June 29th. The one quoted at the beginning of the thread is dated July 1. I'm more willing to believe that one than the one you quoted. Besides, I don't think the BBC could even begin to afford Johnny Depp.
