  • One of the funniest movies ever...

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of 'Airplane!' which is one of my all-time favorite comedies. I thought it was hilarious the first time I saw it (age 8), and after seeing it again recently (age 38), I still think it's hilarious! It set the standard for "parody" films; in this case, they were ripping on the "epic disaster films" that dominated the late '70's. I'd really love to see another awesome parody flick; they haven't made a decent one since 'Scary Movie'.

I also like the scene where they announce to the passengers: "Assume crash positions!" and everyone assumes the positions they'll likely be in after the crash (splayed across the aisle, seats, etc).

The 80's was a golden age for comedy in all its forms (parody, dark, romantic, action, etc):

    The Naked Gun
    The Princess Bride
    Ghostbusters
    Trading Places
    Beverly Hills Cop
    Caddyshack
    Better Off Dead
    Heathers

Feel free to add your own to the list!

The lines and sight gags on "Airplane" were hysterical. I had never seen real shit hitting a fan before that movie.

Ah, "Airplane"... So many hilarious moments:

"Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit (fill in the blank!"

"Of course I'm serious, and stop calling me Shirley."

      The Beav's mom speaking Jive.

and, of course, Kitten Natividad's memorable cameo.

More precisely the Airport! movies that dominated the 70's.

        (And Airport 74, 74, 77, 79)

But yes, it is a great film.

        The cockpit! What is it?

It's a little room in the front of the plane where the pilot sits but that's not important right now.

And the Airport movies can be derived from The High and the Mighty made in 1954. If you watch this one, you can see a lot of stuff adapted for Airplane.

You ever been in a Turkish prison?

                You like movies about gladiators?

What do you make of this?
Well I can make a hat, or a bird...

These people must get to a hospital.
                A hospital, what is it??
A big building where sick people go, but that's not important right now.

And what about the end, where Stryker's cab customer from the beginning is still waiting for him and says "I'll give him another two minutes?"

                Testing
"I saw a flock of moosen! There were many of 'em. Many much moosen. Out in the woods- in the woodes- in the woodsen. The meese want the food. The food is to eatenesen."

Last May I was at a NASCAR race in South Carolina (No redneck Jokes! ) listing to one of the teams radios (Brad Keselowski for your race fans) when a crew member made the following comment on the radio.

"Yep, looks like I picked the wrong race to stop sniffing glue"

Flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.
