  • An essay that I wrote

I wrote an essay about my experiences in dealing with customers while working at Jewel, back when I moved back to Illinois in late 2005 (I've since moved back to Florida).

The only time I ever ask for a paper bag is when I need one for herb drying...that or I need another playtoy for my cat.

My cat loves hiding in paper bags.

Like many, my first job was as a "service" clerk in a grocery store..reading that was fun...it took me back in time 12 years. I remember all my little pet peeves. Well, except the "large order" one.....I spend about $100 a week...and its just for me.

I always hated the $400+ orders that the customer wanted bagged "light"...but of course..had to have double paper...

My cats love that too. But the crinkle-cat-bag and cat-tunnel meant for them to play with that they got for christmas, they don't want anything to do with. Last night my little girl was in the paper bag, I scooped her up and took her to the couch in the bag, and she stayed in there for 15 minutes licking herself - guess every girl needs her own private bath once in a while!

What a coincidence! So do I! I love hiding in paper bags. I'll jump in one, poke my head out, look around... and then remember I live alone. No one can see me having fun. Ah well.
Age and wisdom don't necessarily go together. Some people just become stupid with more authority.

Pretty much a good essay with the exception of one thing: The large order one. I don't know about you, but my mom had 6 kids altogether. She had to buy a lot of food to keep us all fed. She grew quite a bit in her garden, but we had to buy a lot too.

Parents don't have time to go to the store multiple times to buy small amounts. Just bag their stuff and go (unless, they not only buy a huge amount but then insist that you double bag in some funky fashion)

Sadly, my need to economise on my family's food spend has to take precedence over the bagger's sensibilities ! "Spending little bits here and there on food" is a good way to blow your budget to bits, sadly. I don't think i've ever bought two trolleys'-worth of stuff, though.
