  • Luna is #1!!!

That's right, our Luna (Galomy Oak's Aurora del Mango) is the #1 Czechoslovakian vlcak in the USA by UKC rankings.

Of course, she's the only one listed now..

    Duh, link might be nice...

"Vlcak". How in the name of Mikael Agricola do you pronounce that?

This is how the name breaks down:

Galomy Oak - the breeder's kennel
Aurora - her "name" (she was part of the first litter so her name had to begin with an "A" but her call name is Luna)
(Casa) del Mango - the owner's (our) kennel

There are a couple of ways:

Here in the USA we kinda killed it, VEEL-chak (as in veal and the "a" is like in tack) but over in the Czech Republic (and we've tried to pronounce it this way) it's VUHL-chuk.

Here's a link so someone (I think he's from the Czech Republic) pronouncing it (Czechoslovensky vlcak - http://nancy.wolfdog.cz/help/CsV.mp3 ).

I guess Slovak languages don't like vowels, you should see her papers.

          Congrats!

My dad's family is Slovak; he says our last name was Americanized and I don't want to know the original spelling

It's still a challenge for a lot of people to pronounce (most get it halfway right).

Oh my he has a sexy voice... Id listen to him read the phone book

Actually the funniest thing is listening to my friends Jin'Ente and Power arguing in romanian ... it is such a pretty language. I know that they are using very offensive language, but *damn* it sure is melodic

As an aside, where would one buy one in the eastern end of the US? I bet they would make a killer service dog =)

They tend to be a bit skitzy and stand offish but our breeder is in VA and we're in FL.

My wife is trying to train Luna to be a service dog - so far she's exceeding our expectations but still doing OK.
