  • Westboro Cult to protest funeral of 9 y/o killed in AZ shooting

I hate these "people" and their "church."

Westboro Baptist Church says that God sent the shooter to Tucson, Arizona to kill and maim as many people as possible. And the followers of WBC plans on protesting at the funeral of 9 year-old murder victim Christina-Taylor Green.

Christina was born on September 11, 2001, and was shot Saturday morning waiting to meet her Congresswoman, and passed away a short time later at the University of Arizona Medical Center.

What I don't get is where did they get that idea in the first place? Who originally had the great talk that decided a 9 yo had to die?

As far as I'm concerned, these people deserve no attention at all. Ignore them; shun them, as hard as it may be.

As always they're just looking to get a rise out of people with their "religion."

I want to know who's funding this load of crap. Somebody's got to be giving them significant amounts of money with all the mass travel they do.

Sometimes people will form a ring around funerals they're picketing at to block them from getting too close and shield the families. Maybe there are enough people to do that here. If I were close, I'd so be there.

Don't forget the Patriot Guard Riders.

For the unfamiliar, they're a group of folks with motorbikes (they're stated that they are NOT bikers), who go around to the funerals that the Westboro Baptist Church are likely to picket at, or at the request of family members. They don't actively fight the WBC, they'll do things like drape a giant flag in front of them so the picketers aren't seen or they'll rev their engines VERY loudly to drown them out.

Perhaps they'll be attending the funeral?

This story tore at my heart; I used to live in Arizona, and my son is the same age as Christina-Taylor Green. Her family must be in agony right now, and the last thing they need are the Phelps Phuckwits harrassing them. If I were still living in Arizona, you'd better believe I'd be one of those counter-protesting them.

I hope the PGR will be there. It's hard enough losing a child, but in such violent circumstances and then these...these...revolting soulless creatures think they can protest a CHILD'S FUNERAL?

I truly hope that the westboro people get their comeuppance. I really really do.

Their church members will donate a lot of money towards the causes (and who knows how long they've been taking donations and building up a bank account) but I also think last year they won some big lawsuit (in the sum of millions) and are using that money, too.

I think IPF has the best way to deal with them, just ignore them.

This is such a terrible situation. Hopefully Dallas Green gives these guys a piece of his mind.

I live in the same town as these . . . "people" . . . and know rather more about them than I want to.

The 'church' is mostly Fuckwit Fred's relatives; children, grandchildren, and their spouses. The whole group lives together in a compound consisting of four or five houses on a single block, surrounded by a high wall. Several of them are lawyers; all their legal fees are poured back into the church.

They make most of their living from suing people who "infringe their right of free speech and free assembly", to quote the current effective leader of the church, Fred's daughter Shirley.

And yes, most Topekans do our best to pretend they don't exist, even when we have to see them out on our street corners regularly with their disgusting signs.

Anybody know where I can get some napalm and a rocket launcher?

Ditto, morgana. Since my town is so close and full of "liberal heathens", they're here all the damn time. They always hit the KU graduations, some of the basketball games (high visibility), the local high schools, etc. We've been fortunate in that they have yet to picket one of the University theatre productions, although they've protested high school and community productions (RENT and the The Laramie Project spring to mind, although there have been others), and a few bigger events at the big performing arts center. Like the troupe of Chinese acrobats and dancers.

I hate that I live in the same state as these hateful bigots, and that this is a thing that Kansas is known for.

DINGDINGDING! They go out looking for ways to piss people, hoping they retaliate, then sue them and any organization they belong to for an insane amount, then funnel that money into further piss off endeavors.

They even tried that a couple time up here in Canada, never got past the border (considered a threat to security by inciting riots).
