As you may or may not know, my birtplace is the town of Bennington. And incidents like this are making it harder and harder to consider that something to brag about.

Idiot fuckin' cop, like a baby squirrel is really a threat to anybody & the fact that he did it in front of a bunch of kids. What's the matter officer, can't find a puppy to shoot? It's a fuckin' squirrel, the reason it was getting close is that it's acclimated to humans & probably sees them as a source of food since people feed them.

That asshole would run out of pepper spray around this university. All the squirrels come up to people here. I used to sit outside and have lunch, they will come up and sit right next to you and sometimes stand up and beg for food.

apparently on the campus of Major University here; the squirrels will actually steal your cheetos - i guess they have a D&D game to get back to...

While I think he overreacted with the pepper spray, and that he could have found a box or something to trap it with, the article says they were worried about rabies. I don't know how squirrels usually act there, but maybe this was very unusual. It's sad, really sad, he could have done it better like try and chase it away, but disease is a real threat.

In the U.K., grey squirrels are considered nothing more than a pest and a threat. Lethal measures are actually permitted when dealing with them so long as it doesn't harm the surrounding flora and fauna (other grey squirrels excluded of course).

That's actually where I found the reference to that story. Of all the things to bring the attention of my birthplace to their attention for.

I mean, we had a sniper shooting in my town back in 1992, but it's the psychotic squirrel that gets the mention. Amazing.
