At least they have a sense of humor.

(I don't know why #12 is in there, though. It's funny, but it has nothing to do with Borders closing...oh, and it's a Barnes & Noble.)

I remember one used book store that had a sign in their "Paranormal" section labelling it as "Department of Blurry Photographs".
"Kamala the Ugandan Giant" 1950-2020 • "Bullet" Bob Armstrong 1939-2020 • "Road Warrior Animal" 1960-2020 • "Zeus" Tiny Lister Jr. 1958-2020 • "Hacksaw" Butch Reed 1954-2021 • "New Jack" Jerome Young 1963-2021 • "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff 1949-2021 • "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton 1958-2021 • Daffney 1975-2021

No it's not. They are two separate companies.

          Wishful thinking?
          Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
          DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come as Border's is a local chain for me. I suspect when I see my Border's close, it will be Border's for good.

Hehe, I just read some of the comments. My favorite so far:

If I ever have a bookstore sections will be organized by the rainbow. Now we will finally be able to find that one with the red cover.
                lol

Ah - I thought Borders was partnered with Amazon but they broke it off back in 2008 to compete with them.... Oops?

Since I've moved to the mid-south though I haven't really used Amazon, except for non-book items. We have a nice selection of small chain book stores (BooksAMillion and Hastings) as well as some used stores and some national chains.

Personally, I don't think it was the online presence that is killing them. I think they grew way too fast. I live near Ann Arbor and we had three of them in Ann Arbor (they closed one of them). There are also about 5 more within a 30 mile radius. They also seemed to lose their focus. When I first moved to this area, they were a really good bookstore. Now they are an average bookstore, sub-average music/movie store and other things.

I just think it's a shame that they had to close so many of the stores here in Phoenix, because with Borders gone, that leaves no place to buy "new" books in this part of the city. (we do have some used bookstores, though)

Around here (Toronto area) Chapters / Indigo, which is the major bookseller, is busily reconfiguring their stores to have more kids books, games, etc. due to desclining store sales.

They used to have a decent computer book section.... Used to be able to pull four or five books off the shelf on a given topic and compare them so find the one suited my needs best.
Now it's been reduced to "DOS for Dummies" and "Introduction to Excel Macros" etc.

And beyond that... most everything is cheaper online, even buying from Chapters. Why on earth would I pay $20 in-store for a book when I can get it $12 in a couple of days if I order on line? Especially since they have free shipping for orders over $25.
There's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

I buy most of my stuff from the internet. Its like half the price. I'm not surprised stores are closing. Those are amusing though.
