Oops, sorry. I meant to post a link after I found one. Had been spending the last hour watching the news ^^;; Lost a few friends in the towers.

According to ABC news, he was killed a couple days ago, and last night was when they got the DNA results.

Really.....I didn't realize that. That explains how they got him buried at sea so fast...I thought it was quick to get it done in one day!

I believe the reason for the Burial at sea was because a) Islam usually requires a very quick burial/cremation after the person has been killed and b) they did not want a gravesite for people to worship.

If I had the money, drinks would be on me tonight to celebrate. I usually don't take pleasure in others losing their lives but I think I can count this as the exception to that rule. My only regret is that we could not make him stand trial for what he did.

Ironically, here at work, we just celebrated World Wish Day on Friday. I guess the world got it's wish.

An interesting development. The big problem however is that Al Queda has become quite decentralized already because of counter attacks using drones and intercepting communications. One single person in the organization is not all that critical to the overall function of the entity.

That is not to say that the group could pull off another 9-11. That literally took a decade of planning and organizing and if it weren't for the fact the US intelligence services played down the risks, it would have never worked. A lot of luck and bureaucratic impedance made 9-11 possible.

What will really be interesting is how countries within the Middle East respond. I find that many Americans are confused by how Bin Laden is viewed in the Middle East. For many in the Middle East, America is best understood as the backers of their local governments (many which are EXTREMELY hated). Bin Laden is seen as a threat to a social order that a large percentage don't like. This is not to say that Bin Laden or his form of Islam is popular. He is merely seen as someone who is standing up to the powers that be and not someone they would actually want in charge.

For example, within Afghanistan, the Taliban never represented the largest ethnic groups. Due the Soviet invasion, most social structures were completely destroyed as the average Taliban fighter grew up in Pakistan in relief camps, heavily funded by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the US. In a very real sense, they were as Afghani as the American troops currently in country. Nor were the Taliban policies popular with the locals. But in a country where for decades it was just one long roving battle between warring tribes, any semblance of order was preferred over the status quo.

A major figure head is now gone, and hopefully Bin Laden's skill at organization, propaganda, and fund raising will not be easily replaced. Out of the three, I think its the loss of his skill at raising money, specifically in Saudi Arabia which will hurt the organization the most. Unfortunately, the reality is that we are looking at a hydra that we just hacked off the most prominent head. I do wish I was still in the military when this happened. I suspect quite a few free beers are getting spread around military towns.

Sorry about the length and I hope I didn't send this thread into no-go territory.

                          This man...was evil.

There are honorable enemies and there are enemies without honor. He was of the latter type.

To the military: Good work. Thank you.

                          To Osama: Burn, fucker, burn.

Meh. Didn't they say he was already dead like three years ago from some kind of disease?
That time they didn't have a body. If you don't have a body, he ain't dead.

I wonder how long until "deathers" start popping up?

Here's the last known pic of him alive:

Whatcha gonna do, Bin Laden, when Hulkamania goes Jihad on you?

Better be careful though. al-Queda might issue a fatwa on your ass

Jeez . . . what did the sharks do to deserve that?

You know how the jihadists say being a martyr gets them 70 virgins in Heaven?

I had this rather pleasant thought of bin Laden getting his reward in Hell: 70 demons who get to have a go at his virgin ass.

Ooops. Did that come out of my mouth?
