  • To quote Mr. Hyneman: "Whoops!"

Mythbusters show suspended after cannon experiment sends a cannonball through a house.

I read this and all I could think of was "Oops!"

Now for the record, this is not the first time they've done this particular test nor were they being reckless about it, but the world is a funny place.

The only thing that seems odd to me is why didn't they do the test at the runway like they do most of their other large bore live fire tests?

I want to know who builds a house next to a site like that and thinks nothing bad is ever going to happen.

Could be that they built their house there purely for the purpose of something happening. Also, according to Adam (I follow him on Twitter), the show has not actually been suspended or cancelled.

I believe also that they offered to repair the house and make it better.

Nope the Mythbusters crew are gonna build a whole new house for them. Sadly... it will only be a model

In all seriousness the article mentioned the show has insurance meant to cover such accidents. And odds are the houses were built before the testing range.

I've seen them build 1:1 scale houses before and I don't want them to touch it.

              To code? yes. Liveable? well...

You know the thing about this whole thing that bothers me, is everyone is blaming the mythbusters for this happening, no one is saying jack shit against the sheriff who approved the test or the experts that they always have observing the test... no, it was solely the mythbusters being reckless... hello, they were following all applicable safety rules, if they did anything wrong then it is something that needs to be fixed in the rules.

they didn't do anything wrong, per se (except for location, but hell, if it went off without a hitch nobody would be criticising their choice of location) it was a misfire, nobody can be fully prepared for/expect a misfire to happen, sure, you can try and minimise it, but when its a unpredictable, random event, you can hardly prepare for it, that and given the dynamic nature of a circular cannonball in flight/bouncing and skipping, means you can only prepare so much, which I'm sure they did.

They've used that site how many times without a single issue? It was a fluke, nobody was hurt, they apologized and plan to fully repair everything.

Now that is impressive (even moreso that no cars were hit). I wonder what people on the road must have thought?
