Oooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh. Bet she's not going to see facebook, or any sort of recreation, again for a LOOOOOOONG time! The work she does now will make her a good responsible adult. I had a ton of chores too, and now I appreciate it. Shooting the computer was a BIT much, but my dad did something similar to my sister. She was whining about how stupid this expensive toy that she'd begged for was, how much she hated it, she wished she'd never gotten it, etc. So my dad said, Ok, you don't want it: And he took it and smashed it on the ground and told her "There, now you don't have to worry about how stupid it is." I SWEAR that I never ever complained about any gift I received after seeing that! On the down side, I was horrible about keeping my room clean until dad went through with a trash bag. I also had so much stuff on the dresser that a favorite music box fell and broke, and I realized it wouldn't have happened if I'd cleaned my room, which dad pointed-out to me - but he also fixed my music box as best he could. My rooms have been clean ever since!

I think he went a little overboard but I fully support his decision. Calling a good friend a cleaning lady when in fact it was a exchange of favors between friends would have pissed me off right royally.

Sounds like she's taking it well, though, and understands what she did wrong. Which is kind of the point of punishment.

My dog has a Facebook page. Hubby made it. I told Hubby to take it down. Hubby insists on keeping it. He is a dork and there is nothing I can do about it, since I don't have the login info for the page.

Wow, I didn't think there were any parents like this anymore. Sure, it sounds harsh, but I think sometimes you have to be a bit dramatic to get your point across. He didn't touch her; just her computer. Like he said, she is never going to forget the lesson. And I commend them for not giving in to the pressure to do interviews and crap.

My cat has a Facebook page too, but like bhskittykatt I don't have access to it. My brother and sister take care of it even though they don't live here anymore.

My thoughts on this was, "If the guy's reaction to normal teenage bullshit is to destroy his daughter's possessions with a firearm, I'd hate to see how he deals with a *real* problem." I know my opinion's in the minority, but Dad comes off way worse than Daughter.

And since when is "Respect me or I'll destroy your stuff" an example of good parenting? If it were a husband destroying a wife's possessions because she wasn't "respectful" enough, people would be crying "abuse". If it were a boss destroying his employee's stuff, people would be calling for criminal charges. But a father destroying his daughter's stuff is okay? Sorry, no. It's not.
