  • Refusing to serve a customer made him a hero

Sorry for the rest of the family but Dad is a jerk

Also, somebody needs to thank the management for not sacking Michael Garcia on the spot. Too many places would've been falling all over their pathetic selves trying to get The Jerk back because, you know, "the customer is always right."

I don't think that management would have fired Michael for this. The family with the special needs child were regulars, it was the first time for stupid father's family.

I read in another article that the guy said, "If you refuse to serve us, then we'll take our money somewhere else." Also it added where Michael said, "How can you say that about 5 year old angel?" to the first comment. That's when the family left.

Although, from what I've seen in the article, this has given the restaurant a LOT of positive feedback from customers. (and very likely more business too!)

And that's worth a LOT more than one bigot's whines.

You know, I've worked with a few special needs kids. They all are so sweet and while yes, they're different and it can take some getting used to, but the kids I worked with I will never ever forget. Good for him!

Edit: Showed this article to my mom and when she saw the picture of Milo, the first thing she said, "He's not even all that severe!" This is a woman who works constantly with special needs kids. When she read the comments from the family, she got pretty upset. Can't say I blame her.

"Special needs children need to be special somewhere else," the father reportedly said.
Because special needs children can decide where and when to be "special."

Too bad I'm nowhere near Houston. Anybody up for a CS roadtrip?

I will need to remember to show this to my mentor teacher (when I find out where I'm going for my placement). I'm doing a Special Education placement this year. (my background on special needs is that I was marked as Gifted when I was six and again when I was fourteen, I have an acquaintance who has a deaf child (with no prior history of hearing impairment in the family) and my boyfriend's sister has an intellectual disability)

Update on Michael Garcia, who refused to serve a family after the parents objected to sitting near a child with Down syndrome.

Waiter forwards money to boy's school

The students gave a performance just for him, and he in turn donated money that was sent to him to the school.

Mr. Garcia, It's good to know there are people like you in the world.
