Dear Abby, you've never worked in retail, have you?

How long before someone calls her on her answer?
Probably immediately, but she won't ever print them. The original Abby would've, with a "mea culpa".
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Not the first time she's done this. She does believe that retail/service workers aren't living people.
We had quite a thread on here a few years ago about a similar lapse of judgement on the new Abby's part. She really is just that out of touch with the real world.

Somebody needs to tell Abby that good customer service doesn't include allowing the customer to take advantage of you. Respect goes both ways.

Once is a lapse in judgement. Twice is an ingrained attitude.

You have it correct, though, about whoever's writing Dear Abby being out of touch.

lot of the Yahoo comments seem to be assuming that all retail establishments are locally-owned small businesses; they don't think of the fact that most retail workers don't have any control over things like closing times and overtime pay (or lack thereof).
We had one such customer at the library awhile back.....apparently she thought we were open later than we actually were, and despite the fact that we do have hours posted on the front door, contacted the city management office to complain about staff "deciding to close early for no reason". (at least, that's how I remember it went)

We've had those, too. One such customer was actually ten minutes late! Tho lucky for us, the managers don't give us any grief over them; just tell them any old bullshit and file the complaint in the "waste of time" file.
