Conjoined twins. The sisters have share a torso and body. Inside, they DO have separate hearts, mostly separate lungs (some joining there) and separate spinal columns. Each girl controls the arm on her side of the body.
What the doctor finds amazing is how coordinated they are - video footage of them playing baseball, swimming, driving a car, riding a bike, putting on makeup (each helping the other with that one)
What I find amazing is how much they just cooperate with each other. They have different tastes in clothes for example, so they take turns in picking out outfits. And I realize... "gee if they get mad at each other, they can't just walk away; they have to deal with it".
couple of interesting notes: in practical classes they can submit one body of work which makes sense. kind silly to say, make the girls do two physical experiments in say a science class then they're both clearly working on it. but in other classes, like English, they submit their own individual work (and get different grades).
and on top of that their friends are very protective of them as well. (aw, sweet!)
