  • key lime pie, bacon & hash browns... in paste tubes

    http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/02/...owns-and-more/

    Pretty cool techy stuff:

pilots in these spy planes are stuck in a pressurized environment where they can't just whip out a sammich or cut into a meal. So their food is pretty much limited to tubes of paste that can be administered to the pilot without taking the helmet off.

the original menu had 15 options, they've just added 4 new choices: key lime pie, breakfast bacon & hash browns, peach melba, and beef stroganoff.

Other still-existing choices include apple pie, pudding etc.

not sure how it goes down but i imagine it probably tastes better than the "single celled protein" mush that they had in the Matrix.

I found it mentioned in an article [urhttp://www.stripes.com/news/u-2s-challenge-pilots-endurance-in-the-air-1.97772]here[/url]

They have a device they wear for #1 but... They found that going to a "high-protein/low-bulk" diet the day before the mission pretty much eliminates the need for #2 elimination- while in flight at least. (pun intended)

From what I've heard, all U-2 flight crew are male. Needing to keep their space suits sealed (in case of loss of cabin pressure) rules out a "relief tube" (as used in WW2 aircraft), or the standard "piddle pack" (sponge in a ziploc bag). As for what the "pilot dehydrator" for the U-2 looks like, I'd say "Depends".
