He was a genuine Canadian legend.

You will be sorely missed, sir.

EDIT: I was thinking about him this morning, trying to come up with a way to describe his appeal... He was Canada's Johnny Cash. He represented a part of and a time in Canada where people who worked hard with their hands to put food on the table were respected, where it was all right to get a little rowdy on the weekends, and damn it, a hockey game had a good fight or two in it. He was all about the blue collar (or in our case, plaid).

I really can't think of anyone in Canada who could represent that now.

I wasn't particularly fond of his music, but there was something about the guy.
He was the same guy after years of fame as he was before the fame.

Not a pretentious bone in his body.

He had a rough life, having spent years in foster care, but he rose above it.

I loved the fact that he loved his country so much and sang and wrote about the typical Canadian things, and gained a huge fan base as he did it.

I was listening to an interview with Ronnie Hawkins (another Canadian entertainer) where he talked about Stompin' Tom playing at a college a few years ago. Ronnie said he was worried that Tom wouldn't be well received, but his fears were unfounded. He was a huge hit!

He was unique, and we may never see that type of entertainer again.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Funny bit: someone one asked him about the "stomping". He said it was just a stage he's going through.

He used to auction off the boards that he used to stomp on and couldn't use anymore, giving the money to charity.

And those stages were never the same after.
