  • Asking for a helping hand

I spoke to Raps earlier, and he was kind enough to let me ask you great folks a favor.

I’m trying to get some help for my roommate.

Victoria needs surgery. She won’t die tomorrow, but her life will be considerably shortened if she doesn’t get it. Unfortunately, her medical insurance won’t pay for it, and she can’t afford to. I can’t either, or I would.

So some of her friends and family have set up a way to help. Do you shop online? Ever? Then may I call your attention to a website called iGive.com?

There are 686 online stores registered with iGive. Anytime you shop with one of them through the iGive website, they'll donate a percentage of your purchase to the cause you choose. A&E Online will give 4.4%; Barnes & Noble will give 2%; Dell will give 1.6%; Gevalia, the Gap, Godiva, Hilton Hotels, the History Channel, J.C. Penney, Joann.com, Omaha Steaks, Macy’s, Science Fiction Book Club, Staples, Starbucks, Target, Travelocity, Zales . . . Lots of stores.

They don’t charge a tariff to shop through iGive.com. You won’t pay any more than you would if you went directly to the store’s own website. But you could help give Victoria another decade of life, just by adding one more step to shopping you’d do anyway. iGive automatically sends the money to an account we’ve set up for her.

If you decide to help, just go here -- www.iGive.com/Surgery4Tori -- and register. Then pick the store you want to shop from, and go from there. Once you’re registered and you’ve chosen the cause, all you have to do each time you shop is log in and . . . shop.

    One extra step.

    Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's troubles.
May I ask what kind of surgery she needs?

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Bariatric surgery. Her doctor's told her she's about three years away from the wheelchair, and about ten away from dying if she doesn't lose 200 pounds. Quickly.

Unfortunately, she's physically unable to do enough exercise to make a difference, because of fibromyalgia, arthritis and chronic fatigue syndrome. (Bad combo; she's legally disabled.) If enough weight comes off, she should be able to starting exercising, but she can't get the weight off because she can't exercise, so she can't lose enough weight to make it possible to exercise . . . And around and around.

So she's trying to get lap-band surgery. And her insurance won't pay for it.

And she won't let her sister take out a third mortgage on her house . . .

WOW! What a list of places that help support this, and so far pretty painless, no real extra work to it. I just wanted to let everyone know that NewEgg partipates at .4%, and there are alot of techies here that might be interested in that one.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

          Thanks, Banrion!

Yeah, there's some great places on there. I love the make-your-own-tee-shirts place, Zazzle.
