It's time to resurrect my old "Favorite Song Lyrics" thread, this time with a twist: this version is specifically for songs about the lighter side of life, songs that are upbeat and/or uplifting, about love, sex, humor... you know, happy thoughts!
No angst-ridden, bleak, depressing songs allowed in this thread, nosiree! (But fear not, they have their own thread! )
First on my list is what I consider to be THE BEST reason to see the movie version of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! Regardless of what you think of the rest of the movie, there can be no denying the fact that the movie's opening scene is absolutely BRILLIANT and is chock full of the same inspired lunacy as the books that inspired it! The opening sequence ALONE was worth the price of admission!
To sum up for those that aren't familiar with the story: As the story begins, the Earth is about to be destroyed to make way for a new hyperspace bypass, and mankind (who is, after all, only the 3rd most intelligent species on the planet!) is totally oblivious to this fact. So, shortly before leaving the planet under their own power, the planet's 2nd most intelligent species attempts to send us a final message, which is this:
Whenever I'm having a really bad day, I can fire up the DVD of the movie, watch that scene, and I'll be smiling, maybe even LAUGHING, in no time! I like to think that somewhere, Douglas Adams looked down, saw that musical number, and smiled as well.
More to come from me later, but in the meantime, I can't wait to see what the rest of you post.

"So Long and Thanks For All the Fish"
So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all, but oh dear
You may not share our intellect,
which might explain your disrespect
for all the natural wonders that grow around you
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish
The world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve around you
Despite those nets of tuna fleets,
we thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish
If I had just one last wish,
I would like a tasty fish
If we could just change one thing,
we would all have learnt to sing
Come, one and all
Man and mammal
Side by side in
life's great gene pool
Ooh ooh
Ah ah
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish!
