My new avatar doesn't have much of a story behind it...it's from the anime Fairy Tail, which is both good and funny. It's taken at a moment where two characters are watching a guy fight for the first time, and realizing he's actually insanely powerful as he detonates a large area right in front of them. The face they make is only on screen for a second or two, but it is utterly hilarious

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WA68MOtsAI

That's a shitty AMV (I despise AMVs) of the fight since I couldn't find a real version, but the animation plays at :10

For the longest time I used to have this as my avatar:

It came about because of the constant use of the "I AM A BANANA" joke from Don Hertzfeldt's "Rejected" cartoon.
"That's too bad. Hospitals aren't fun to fight through."
"What IS fun to fight through?"
"Gardens. Electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy."

Mine was made for me by LexiaFira (now Midnight12) from these here forums. I asked for something matching the Space Wolf's from 40k, and then let her go nuts (cos come on, angry vikings in space is made of so much win. )

Also have an alternate version she made me, with a wolf in it. Maybe I'll switch it...

That sounds like the Dos Equis Guy meme, BSE! "I don't always change my avatar....but when I do, it will ALWAYS be Pablo!" I'm sorry I had to. Anyway, my avatar is just something I made on a website. Thought it looked cool.

I like it. And if Pablo were one to drink beer, I'm sure it would have been Dos Equis!

I was kinda glad when they introduced the banner pictures on facebook, cuz I've never changed my profile pic on there, so now at least I can be a little creative with the other one. (Which reminds me, I gotta get the cherry blossom pics off my camera so I can use one for that.)

Mine is quite an outdated picture of myself.

                Most boring one, really.

My avatar is a drawing of the CSS Tennessee and the USS Hartford in the Battle of Mobile Bay.

I have long had an interest in the US Civil War naval actions, and had a dozen pictures of ironclads hanging in my office. They had an online chat with the director at work and I decided to use Ironclad Alibi since I needed an online alibi and had pictures of ironclads in my office. I decided to use that name on this forum and wanted an avatar that represented ironclads. I think the Battle of Mobile Bay is one of the more interesting Civil War naval battles, so I picked a period etching showing the battle.

I ended up buying White 2 the other day. Now I can't stop playing it.

They're going to release a new one later on this year...Pokemon X and Y.
Oh I know. I think I'm going to have to invest in a DS and get them, as well as catch up on the rest of the series. I'm afraid to try my old games though. I'm pretty sure I'm probably going to have the dead internal battery experience, which would be a shame, because I have all 151 Pokemon on my Pokemon Blue.

They ended up doing remakes of the Gen I and II games to tweak a few things. The Remakes of Gen I and II (Red, Blue, Gold, Silver-no Crystal or Yellow) are for Game Boy Advance and DS respectively-FireRed, LeafGreen (meant to replace Blue*), HeartGold and SoulSilver.

As far as investing in a DS goes, I'd strongly recommend going for either a DSiXL or a 3DSXL unless you want to play the Game Boy Advance games (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen). Reasons why are:

-DS Lites have a great battery life, but are somewhat restrictive in terms of Wi-Fi connectivity. They are also very hard to come by these days (I'd imagine). DSi and beyond do NOT have the capacity for GBA games.

-DSiXL has a great battery life, but also a larger screen and stylus. While the DSiXL comes with both an external and internal stylus (I believe), the external stylus is better for those of us who keep LOSING the damn things (I've lost about five...)

-3DSXL has a somewhat better battery life than its 3DS counterpart.

-Everything from the DSi onwards allows for connectivity via WPA encryption. If you have a DS Lite, you're pretty much restricted to WEP encryption or public wi-fi spots.

In terms of backwards compatibility, a 3DS will play all DS games as well, but obviously not the other way around. 3DS cards are lighter in colour and also have a little tag on one side that stops you trying to fit it into a regular DS.

There are no "extras" you get from playing Pokemon on a 3DS, but if you want to go for the brand new ones, you're better off getting it now.

The game order goes as follows:

                      Gen III: (Hoenn/Kanto)

                      Kanto remakes:

                      -FireRed
                      -LeafGreen.

There WAS a WaterBlue trademarked, but apparently the reason was that fire and water are opposing elements and they didn't want to create conflicts. So LeafGreen is a remake of the Blue that was released overseas. (Basically, in Japan, the original cartridges that were released were Red and Green. The Blue over THERE attempted to tidy up some of the issues present with Red and Green. this eventually became the basis for Red and Blue over here)

                      Hoenn (Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip starter):

                      -Ruby
                      -Sapphire
                      -Emerald.

                      Gen IV (Sinnoh/Johto):

                      Johto Remakes:

                      -HeartGold
                      -SoulSilver.

The only two noteworthy differences between the originals and remakes in this case is that the remakes have your Pokemon walking behind you and that they overhauled the Berry system to match the Gen III games. Kurt can also make multiple balls of the same type as long as you give him the appropriate number of Apricorns.

Sinnoh (Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup starters)

                      -Diamond
                      -Pearl
                      -Platinum.

Gen V (the current one at this stage):

This one does not have any remakes and simply consists of four games that are designed to work with each other more or less.

They are Black and White, Black 2 and White 2. Word of advice: Get both the game you want and its sequel in the same colour. Do NOT get opposing ones (ie don't get Black and then White 2). The reason why is based on the mascots for each game. In Black and White, the mascots are the opposite colour to the game label (so the mascot for Black has a white-coloured dragon and vice-versa) while in Black 2/White 2, they switch it around so the mascot matches the label. (so the mascot for White 2 is actually white)

I got this avatar back in about 2000. Someone on a message board I frequented used it and I liked it. I asked her if I could use it for other message boards and LJ and she said yes. Depending on the board I may or may not use it. I think this is the only board I frequent that I use it on anymore.

Mine's pretty obvious to anybody familiar with the Potterverse. Although I really do feel Richard Harris was the better Dumbledore ... but I like the caption on this.

I'm thinking of next fall changing mine to a still shot from a "krampuslauf" video I saw on YouTube. I'd never heard of this legend before but apparently it's the Dark Side of Santa Claus ....
