Hard vs soft?

So I have finally settled on a new phone (the iPhone 4-of the three out at the moment, that one better meets my needs) and now I am hunting for a case. I've been looking around a lot and I've been debating between soft cases and hard cases.

I've heard benefits and problems with both but I can't decide. A screen protector will be a must for me anyway.
I am staying away from a flip/folio case, as I do not want to be fiddling with the case when I'm bored.

So lets hear your views! I've used a soft case on my previous model and I had no problems with it, but I'm still up in arms over this one.

There are a few stalls around that specialise in phone cases for various models of phones, so I will most likely be revisiting them

The big factor would be whether it pads the edges and corners of the device, which are the most likely parts of it to land on when falling from a height. I think it's possible for both hard and soft cases to do that.

I also have an otter box. I mostly like it. It does do a great job of protecting it against drops and bumps, and even does a fairly good job with small amounts of water such as falling rain and dew on the grass (okay, so I drop my phone a lot). What I don't like is that the soft rubber makes it difficult to shove the phone in my back pocket, which is where I prefer to keep my phone.

Another vote for Otter Box.

Have one on my iPhone 3GS and I love it.

Of course, you can find really pretty, colorful or blingy cases if you wan to dress it up for the evening.

But if you're prone to dropping stuff and you work in a rough environment - again, Otter Box.

Check Amazon for best pricing on those . . . they're pretty expensive most places. I have a Defender series that regularly retails for around $50 (USD) but I was able to get it for $30.

Also, I'll keep an eye out for the otter box tomorrow. I picked up a semi-cheap silicon case to use in case I can't find one or whenever I feel like pimpin my phone out further. It's hypercolour

I actually had a bit of a moment this morning. There were two cases that I had in mind and I figured I could get both and make the decision later with some help. Unfortunately one of the cases I wanted was sold out, so I figured I'd get the other one.

I thought of Wood. OI, gutterminds, not the kind you are thinking of. But like hardwood and softwood trees. I don't know why...

But yeah, otterbox is great. I once accidentally dropped my phone into a sink full of soap and dishes and the phone was FINE! Weird for a day, but otherwise fine. Otterbox is amazing! Plus, lifetime guarantee and replacements!
