Given the last couple of occupants of the Speaker's chair, perhaps it's just as well all round if they're not permitted to speak. Gorbals Mick was indecipherable,John Bercow and his charming wife are just ridiculous...

The Ten Commandments contain 297 words. The Bill of Rights is stated in 463 words. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address contains 266 words. A recent federal directive to regulate the price of cabbage contains 26,911 words.

In England, the Speaker of the House is not allowed to speak.
That's actually quite funny as the Speaker of the House in Aussieland (which bases a number of things off of the British system as well as the American system) does speak and was recently ousted for various reasons!

In case anyone's wondering, that was Gadsby.

There are 293 different ways to make change for a US dollar.

Al Capone's business card stated that he was a used furniture dealer.

In England, the Speaker of the House is not allowed to speak.

Mister Rogers was an ordained minister; the leaders of his church became angered when he would not use his show as a platform to denounce gay and lesbian issues, wherein he stated that he believed everyone should love everyone, and be friends. Contrary to popular urban legend, he was not a Vietnam veteran.

The inventor of the flushing toilet was named Thomas Crapper.

The bullseye of a regulation dart board must be exactly 5'8" from the ground to be considered official.

Of all the words in the English language, the word "set" has the most definitions.

The only McDonalds that does not have golden arches is in Sedona,AZ-they are turquoise to avoid clashing with the red rock of the building.
Sedona's a pretty cool place, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

8 November 1997 was the last time in the UK there was literally nothing on terrestrial TV to watch. After that date,in the closedown,it went onto 24-hour news.

and from the good folk at mentalfloss

New Mexico State's first graduation class in 1893 had just one student-and he was shot and killed before graduation.

The 50-star US flag was designed as a high school project by an Ohio student. He was awarded a B- for it.

In 1861,Wilmer McLean was living in Manassas,Va. The first battle of the Civil War(Bull Run) took place there and his house was used as Confederate General Beauregard's HQ.

He moved to a different part of town in 1862,to a new house. Which happened to be slap bang in the middle of the battlefield for The Second Battle of Bull Run.

Getting the hint,he moved across state to Clover Hill.Where in 1865,both armies ended up. General Lee surrendered, ending the war.He did so in the front of room of Wilmer McLean's house.

St John Ambulance isn't called St John's Ambulance.

It's named after St. John, it's not owned by him. Seeing that 'apostrophe s' after John makes me a little stabby sometimes
