  • What's your bookshelf look like?

I have approximately 20 'unhappy teens' books, from Speak to 13 Reasons Why.
    I have 4 mangas.
I have approximately 50 books from my childhood, from Harry Potter to a book about girls and unicorns (I haven't read that in a while.)
50 books on psychology, usually on bipolar and borderline personality disorder.
15 textbooks from classes (I buy most of mine to keep around)
Like 50 books in teen lit that doesn't fall into the others, like science fiction or the uglies, pretties, specials series.
and like, 100 non-fiction history books.

(All these numbers are approximate. They're probably low!)

Yes, I do need a new bookshelf. Why do you ask? XP

    I've got on order:

    Mythology of the World
    Homosexuality and Civilization
    China: a history
Photoshop for Right-brainers: The Art of Photomanipulation

    I have on my wishlist:

    A book about the crusades
    Mongols
    Ottomans
    Romans
    Greeks
And a specific book on Columbine.

You mean our eight bookshleves and the random piles tucked here and there? And my son's one bookshelf and his decorative long box? And the 4 long boxes of comics in the closet?

Fiction, nonfiction, comics, picture books, a metric ton of Little Golden Books, manga, A whole case of nothing but RPG books...

My husband did a quick estimate recently and he thinks we have around 2,500 titles here, and he has another 6-goot bookcase at his parents' house that he hasn't brought here yet.

    We might have a problem.

We don't have bookcases. We have readable insulation.

We're trying to get our house in order to move. We've been paring down our book titles. There's nothing left to pare down! We have one bookcase dedicated to just graphic novels. (<--living room.) One that's dedicated to leather bound books, our favorite books, and art books (i.e., the art of Conan graphic novel and Luis Royo, stuff like that). (<--dining room).

Daughter has a bookcase but she doesn't keep her books on it. She keeps her books in one of her little toy chests. And her toys on the bookcase.

Third bedroom has romance novels (mine), the rest of child's books, and a bunch of non-fiction books. Those are on the bookcase. That does not include the 15 long & short comic boxes/comic drawers we have have full of comics.

In the basement, we have 3 three bookcases (now condensed to two bookcases) full of sci-fi, fantasy, and King Arthur. Not including the three(?) Rubbermaid plastic totes full of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3.5, and a book or two of D&D and various other RPGs we've collected over the years.

            Which one?

The one on the back of my bed is stuffed with my favorite fantasy and science fiction books, plus a few books on herbs, gems, cats and a few random things like notebooks from when I did most of my writing in longhand; also a few packs of photos. The one by the bedroom door is full of more fantasy/SF, plus my CDs, a few books on writing. The one by my window holds my mom's old Agatha Christie paperbacks, some of my brother's woodworking books, some books on pagan stuff and more odds & ends of SF/fantasy.

My night table (actually an old wooden chair with no back) has yet MORE SF/fantasy, plus magazines, catalogs and notebooks. The one in the living room has mostly magazines (Birds & Blooms, gardening books, Modern Drummer...nobody plays drums, my sister is a rock fanatic). There are also various boxes full of books, books on the microwave cart shelves, books in drawers, and books in the attic. The majority of them are fantasy, sci-fi, gardening, paganism, beading, plus a few odd subjects here and there.

            I need more books, though
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Unfortunately most of my books are also packed and in storage, and not all of them will make it back home here. Gonna have to purge ... and it won't be easy.

              Doesn't everybody?

I have assorted boxes and piles of books all over the house here, ranging from history to historical fiction to mystery to fantasy to kids' books ... and there are a ton of used bookstores in the city here which I am trying my darndest to avoid (but some of them are also thrift stores, where I go to search for clothing ...) and even the Big Box Bookstore has a small table with books as low as $1 and $2 for hardcovers. So yeah, the house is also now littered with bags from this place, which I will have to dispose of fast when brother announces his intent to visit once again (or stuff them all in closets ... on his last visit I scrambled to get a lot of stuff out of sight and did such a good job I still haven't found some of it ...)

                  Let's see:
Tote in my parents basement full of text books and novels from school that I probably won't re-read or look at until after I finish university. Plus a few books I wanted to keep, again, don't think I'll re-read for years.

                  Book Shelf at Parent's:
Merry Gentry Series up to date
All the Argeneau Series Novels I've already read
                  Complete Georgia Nicolsen Series
Sisters HOod of the travelling pants (missing Volume 2)
                  Hannah howell books I've read
All the books in the Caster Chronicles, except Beautiful Chaos because it's at my apartment. (sending it home soon)
                  Random Romance novels
                  Random novels.

                  BOX:
Random assortment of novels that I am moving from my parent's house to my apartment. Including all John Green's novels, complete Harry Potter set, other books.

Two Book Shelves at my apartment:
Random collection of romance novels, classic lit, and YA novels. Also mystery I think. I'm not there to look at it. A few Psych textbooks, and one math textbook.

                  THE PURPLE BOX OF MANGA:
My complete Manga collection as of right now. over 300 volumes. Some complete series, others needing to be completed, many oneshots, some yaoi, and the complete Scott Pilgrim series. (I know that Scott isn't really manga, but where else would I put it.)

Oh, and several clear Rubbermade containers that contain my Harlequin Blaze collection. (Also a few Temptation before the line was ended and became incorporated into Blaze.)

Sadly my mom was big on getting rid of books and stuff as I grew up, so many of the books i enjoyed before high school (save a few childhood classics in storage) were given away long ago.

Also I have become grimly aware of how much of my book collection appears to be erotica and romance novels. I am not sure if I am ashamed or proud.

Well, I got a vague count of my books while I was unpacking today. Approximately 300. And I'm officially out of bookshelves.

I had about 75% of one left, but it turns out, that's exactly how many books was floating around my apartment.

Course, that's nothing on some of you!

And I have been keeping my textbooks too. Most of them, anyway.

I've got about a thousand, at last count. Including sci fi, fantasy, history, science fact and a couple of shelves worth for the kids when they get older. I've got two double stacked bookshelves in the bedroom and the kids have one each in their rooms.
I saw this comic once (and managed to find it again somehow) which kind of sums it up. http://wondermark.com/442/

On the comic: I've had that dream multiple times.

But with stuffed animals. Nicer to be in a room filled with. Less sharp. XP

The comic was very pleasant, but the last two speech bubbles reminded me of a story my dad told me. There were two old bachelors who lived together in a house full of stuff, and to get in and out of the front door you kind of hand to travel through this tunnel of books. One day one of them got sick and sent the other to get him medicine, but several days or weeks based and no one had heard from either of them. Turns out that when the well one was returning, the books collapsed on him and they both died.

Still I hope my future home has many books for my future children to peruse.

My best friend's husband collected sci-fi books for years, putting them away for retirement. He had so many, sometimes he'd have duplicates because he forgot he'd already bought those titles. He had most of a spare bedroom filled with them. I don't know if he still has them now that they're in a smaller house.

My Kindle's got a pretty big variety. I have 5 Discworlds (I just finished Wyrd Sisters), Dante's Divine Comedy, Island of the Blue Dolphins...and 4 books in a "Free Oldies" category (Pride and Prejudice, Christmas Carol, Tarzan, His Last Bow)..

Oh and Dorian Gray. (BLONDE! GET IT RIGHT FILM INDUSTRY >c)

I can't have a stack of books here so that's what I have to have.
