  • Surprise Critter

I've been largely getting into animal photography. I keep running into cool animals. I'm afraid of spiders, but I take good pictures of them. Same with bees. Ants and butterflies I'm okay with. Cows, llamas, sheep.

My once-in-a-lifetime critter photo goes to:

    Flying squirrel!

I just got a ton of new books, and more on the way--for my birthday. Most of them were a gift from me to me, but that's beside the point. XP

With all these new books, I figured a semi-sorting was in order. I sorted them into: fiction, non-fiction, classics.

I sorted the fiction. Filled 4 shelves.

I started taking out the books to sort for classic. Sitting on top of War and Peace was this thing.

Me: Hi little guy. I don't think you should be there.

    *goes to grab*
    *squirrel jumps at my face*

    Me: AH IT JUMPS

I sent a quick IM to my sister, asking her to come down. To her credit, she doesn't ask why, and just does.

Between the two of us, we were able to corner it and get it in a blanket. I took it upstairs and sat it in the bathtub, where I took a handful of pictures, then put it outside.

I know now I didn't put it far enough from the house for it to not come back in, but I tried to do what was best for everyone.

Cute... but squirrels can be nasty when it comes to property damage. We had one chew through a PVC main drain from our upstairs bathroom once. I believe the phrase I heard my father spout was "I'm going to take a shotgun to these walls!" over that one .
But the paint on me is beginning to dry
And it's not what I wanted to be

My once in a lifetime critter photo is a macro shot of a bumblebee doing his thing on a flower, it was funny because despite it being a windy day, the little guy stayed still long enough for me to sneak up on him in full motorbike gear (minus helmet) hold my camera just a couple of cm away from him and take the shot. Sadly I lost the picture but man taking it was tense as I was sure he'd fly off any second.
