  • Sign seen at a McDonalds

I went to the McDonalds that is near where my husband works yesterday to get food for us for our lunch date. There is a sign posted up front that states...

Sorry... No refunds. We will glady replace an incorrect order.

The reason why I posted this is...

It is sad that it has gotten to the point that a fast food place has to post a sign stating that refunds are not given. My guess is that too many refunds were given and too much food was wasted.

I am not sure how you want people to respond to this. Are you shocked by this? It seems totally normal. You go to McDonald's and if they mess up your order, you request a replacement. Who get a refund from McDonald's? I really don't get this...

I got a refund from McD's last week when they ran out of OJ and didn't realize it until after I paid. But that's the only sort of circumstance where I can see a refund happening. If they can fix the order then that should resolve it.

She's commenting on the sad state of the world where signs like this are necessary. When I was growing up, 'no refunds' at a fast-food joint was just common sense. If they botched your order, they'd fix it, and nobody expected anything else. Refunds were rare and only given in very extreme circumstances. But, as the vast number of stories on this board indicates, common sense isn't all that common anymore.

Just an example, if I take a bite from my burger to discover it's still bleeding inside, I have lost my appetite and will have no use for the replacement. Then I'd ask for a refund. I think that's only happened once though.

Yeah, I think the issue is that too many people think making a complaint=get replacement food AND a full refund! This after they already ate every bite of the somehow wrong food.

Actually, it makes me think that maybe they've been scammed too many times by people and are cutting down on those who claim that something is wrong. Maybe the manager of that particular restaurant got a spine.

Not all McDonalds are created equal. There are certain ones in our area that are to be avoided at any cost because no matter how hard you try to make it easy on them to get the order right, they will screw it up. I know I posted a few years ago about one in particular that tried to short change me.

The same McDonalds screwed upon my order at a later time and refused to give me a refund because they kept messing up on it - three times on the same mistake! I had to go to corporate who then turned to the franchise who ignored me. It took initiating a chargeback just to get their attention. By then I'd stopped going there.

So yes, there are those of us who do ask for refunds if there are too many mistakes made. It's easier to get your money back and go elsewhere than it is to keep going back and make them replace the food.

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

Several years ago I started avoiding a guy I shot with because if we went out to eat together he'd find something wrong with his meal and then complain long and loud. He'd ask not only for a new meal but for it to be comped wholly or partially. Now if he did this every now and then it wouldn't be so bad but every time I ate with him he'd pull this mess and you couldn't dissuade him. To me it was embarrassing so I stopped all contact with him outside the range. I later found out through a mutual friend this guy does this to save money on eating out. He also didn't leave tips because he felt justified.
I understand some joints can't get it right to save their lives, so I avoid those places as it's just not worth the heart burn that comes with them.
