  • Need help with a costume

The costumes are for my dogs. I have a 140ish pound mastiff and a 10 pound Jack Russel mix. They are best friends. I want to dress them up as a super hero and side kick, or something like that. I'd like to take advantage of the huge size difference between the two of them for the humor aspect. All ideas are welcome, but I'm on a pretty tight budget, so it can't be too expensive.

    Thanks!

Oh, and for inspiration, here's the dogs: This picture was taken not quite a year ago, when the mastiff was still a puppy. He's about 50 pounds larger now.

Cat: You're right. We're Nuts! This is an insane conversation....
Lister: She'll never leave Fred and we know it.

Though Batman and Robin does spring to mind as well.

Thinking of duos who come in mismatched sizes...

          Rocky & Bullwinkle

Ted and Fred (from PD Eastman's books, they also happen to be dogs who wear turtlenecks, so possibly cheap and easy to do as well)

          Cable and Deadpool

How about Jack and Daxter? Or is that too obscure?

*goes off to goggle Jack and Daxter*

I like these ideas so far. I nixed Rocky and Bullwinkle because I'm afraid they've already been overdone. I also thought about Quickdraw McGraw and, oh, what's the name of the little dog that's the deputy? And Dino and Bam Bam from the Flinstones (though they're not superheroes).

And I *really* like Jak and Daxter. I've never played the games, but they're awesome!

Jack is the strong, silent type, and Daxter is the little, annoying, comic relief. Perfect for a JR terrier, I'd say.

And Baxter, the mastiff is also the strong silent type. Most of the time anyway. If he thinks one of my kids is in danger, he'd attack without a second thought.

Here are links to a couple of very creepy dog costumes:

Those are great, but I really wanted to do a theme with the two dogs. I'd thought about trying to tie it in with my youngest son's costume (the only one still dressing up), but he's going as a truck driver, and I can't think of anything for the dogs that will tie into that. The boy's costume will be awesome though. I'm converting his old wheelchair into the tractor part of a semi truck; with 70's era pick up truck mirrors, old fence posts as the exhaust stacks and hubcaps on the wheels. If I could come up with an idea for the dogs to blend with the truck driver theme, I'd do that in a heart beat.

Superheroes: a duo like Batman and Robin, but with the smaller dog as the main hero, and the large dog as the sidekick. Surely I can't be the only one that finds this idea hilarious?

Trucker tie in: the large dog as an SUV or minivan, or maybe even a tow truck (hello, Argabarga!), the smaller dog as a Smart Car or some other econobox.

Jester, you're my hero! I love the tow truck/small car idea! But I also love the idea of making the big dog the sidekick. Maybe you're not my hero. This is a tough choice.
