  • Why the <bleep> do I even try?

Ok so really really need my right bottom wisdom tooth gone as of yesterday (all of them really, but the bottle right especially). Even orajel is not even phasing the pain. So I go to a doctor here in my area. One hour drive up, one hour waiting, one hour drive back. And ... they can't do it. Because of all my other medical problems..it is a no go. So I have to wait, and deal with the pain, until I get referred up to University of Cincinnati. YAY!

They couldn't even prescribe something for the pain?

It may sound strange, but have you tried Hyland's Teething Tablets? They're far better, in my opinion, than anything OTC marketed for adults.

When I had a nasty toothache from a filling that went bad & BEFORE it was extracted, they had me on Ibuprofen. It made the pain go from a "10" down to about a "2". Can you take that?

They could, but I am not supposed to take it. Could only prescribe Aspirin or Tylenol (or equivalent) Anything like Aspirin is blood thinner, and I already have thin blood. Puts me at risk for even more bleeding.

Tylenol and it's ilk metabolize in the liver, and any medicines that do I am supposed to avoid because my liver is already going bad.

So..yay! Sorry don't mean to wine, I know others that have it worse..but seems like I just have some of the worst 'luck' with things.

That sucks. Yeah, if you have liver or blood problems there's a whole lotta meds you can't take, having both, sheesh, it's a wonder you can take anything.

If someone can go to the pharmacy for you, they might have clove oil. You can put it directly on your tooth.

I am going tomorrow morning to the pharmacy anyhow for medicine refills. Will have to look into that.

I second the clove oil. It's sold in pharmacies everywhere. A natural local antiseptic that numbs on contact. Put some on a cotton ball and place in your mouth. It has a funky taste but you can get used to it.

A mix of clove oil, ground cloves, and orajel worked for now. Thanks for the advice..feel MUCH better now.

Don't know if you're allowed alcohol but have you tried whiskey? Apparently there's a momentary explosion of pain and then ... blessed numbness. (I've used it for a cough but never a toothache so can't speak from direct experience.)

Judging by Mytical's comment about a weak liver, I'd think liqueur would be on the no list as well.

Pretty much it is a no on any type of Alcohol. Chances are it wouldn't do much damage (especially since it would be so little of it). I don't even take cough syrup that has any alcohol in it however. Right now, it is behaving with the crushed clover, clove oil, and Orajel though

With my liver issues, and because I am a 'free bleeder' now because of it, my options are mostly herbal in nature. I am a strong person, and put up with constant pain every day, but sometimes it does get to me and I need to vent a little. I am glad there is someplace people don't mind a little venting, and at least try to help. Thank you.
