Need suggestions for book donation theme

So Barnes & Noble does a book drive every year, and every year I donate at least a few books...I try to do a theme of some sort but I haven't thought of one yet this year. In the past I've done Dr. Seuss, boxed sets (Ramona and Fudge books), Roald Dahl, the theory of evolution (found some good kids' books on the subject which of course I didn't write down anywhere), and last year I did Richard Dawkins' The Magic of Reality (a few copies of the the paperback because even though the hardcover is a really nice book I would only be able to afford to do one copy).

The theme is purely for my own amusement. My thoughts include bargain classics (they have some nice hardcovers in the kids' section for like $5), or SkippyJon Jones (though I'm not sure how many are available in paperback).

So...any ideas? What are your favorites? Or just give me a fun and/or educational theme to work with.

One of my son's favorite series is the Scaredy Squirrel series by Melanie Watt. They are all in paperback, there are 5-6 of them, and they're very funny and cute.

I should totally do that to the one assistant manager I know there. "I need a book (or 5...)...I don't have a title but it's blue..?"

That's better than what I often get, which is, 'I want this specific title but all I remember is it's green. And possibly about a war. I don't know which one. And maybe it's fiction but I'm not sure.'

Or if you need a book about distilled spirits, and all you know about it is "It's green".

Or if you REALLY want to change things up, see if you can find books that have authors from another country. (YMMV-I don't know if these are sold outside of Aussieland)

Mem Fox (younger)

Paul Jennings (older. He mostly does short stories, with a subtle "gross" or morally questionable theme among them. If you've ever seen Round The Twist, nearly all the episodes are based off of his stories))

Pamela Allen (her stories have good illustrations and somewhat simple stories-younger.)


Andy Griffiths (if you've ever heard of/seen The Day My Bum Went Psycho, this is the guy. Another "older kiddie" one and just as gross as Paul Jennings, albeit more blatant about it. His "Just..." books are worth it.)


Robin Klein (Hating Alison Ashley is the best example I can think of. She also has an older-kids picture book called the "Crookbook" which is hilarious)

Morris Gleitzmann (a little less known of late, he's another older kid one, but unlike the other "older kid" stories, his are full-novels. The other two write short stories)

Note this is a YMMV-I don't know which books or authors are sold overseas at the moment. The only one I do know has been sold overseas is Andy Griffiths, albeit with slightly modified titles (for instance, in the US, The Day My Bum Went Psycho becomes the Day My Butt went Psycho)

Might not have been sold overseas (an uncle on my father's side lived in Oz), but Snugglepot and Cuddlepie reached Canada (had a copy when I was younger). Ditto for one you didn't mention - Bottersnikes and Gumbels (spelling?)

Oddly I never actually heard of that one .

When I actually SAW Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, they reminded me of the images that our Brownie "sixes" were meant to have.

In Aussieland, prior to Brownies merging with Girl Guides, we were in different groups labelled after various Aboriginal fairies. They were Junjarins, Moora Moora, Woorails, Tintookie, Lalagullis, Mullokas and Tookonies. Because my Girl Guide "group" was so small, we only had 3 groups: the Junjarins (mine), Moora Moora and Woorails. Here's a picture (scroll down-for some reason, there's no Lalagullis)

When we merged with Girl Guides, they became animals. We had the Koala (mine), the Dolphin (My sister) and the Wombat. I still have my Girl Guides sash somewhere I wound up being Sixer for both the Junjarins and the Koalas eventually, while my sister was a Seconder for hers. (Sixer-"leader" seconder is as it says on the can)

Funnily enough, my sister now leads a Joeys (5-7 yo Scouts) mob and is known as Kangaroo
