Patiokitty, do you have the pattern for those owls or can you point us to it online? I haven't crocheted for years but I think I remember the simpler stitches, and I have a sister who is crazy about owls! I'd love to make one of those for her for her next birthday (not until Oct. so I have time )
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

I'm still relatively a beginner, have been teaching myself via YouTube over the last couple of years & can't manage to read a pattern or stitch chart at all!
I originally started crocheting years ago with a very thick hook & multiple strands of yarn to make wonky blankets as a means of exercising my hands.

I made hat & scarf sets for most people as Christmas presents using different stitches for each one, like puff stitch, basic Tunisian, & Galaxy stitch. Also learned how to make a nice ribbed brim for hats

      A puff stitch scarf

On the go I have a multicoloured wavy throw that I pick up when I get a bit bored of other things. My main projects at the moment are birthday throws for the group of friends I made on my first day at college. I've already gifted one, a basic granny square, and am in the process of making a "granny hexagonal" one then maybe use more squares to make a diamond patterned one. (So far I have almost a 45L box filled with varying sizes of squares & hexagons!)

With Christmas money, I've treated myself to a spool knitter & a flower loom to play with too.

Main goal for this year? Attempt to crochet something in thin cotton yarn
      Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

The big advantage of crocheting over knitting is that when someone sits on your project you can follow the yarn to the screams.
The adventure: dale was a very little sys (3-4) when this happened.

A young sailor (Krit) was staying with the branch president's (pastor) family. B.P. had to stay at church to handle some tasks, so our brave young sailor (a true WV hillbilly - used to lay under his pappy's still, catchin' drips when he was 5) volunteered to take the B.P.'s wife and kids home.

Krithad a van with the engine between the seats, he wanted to sit next to his girlfriend, so he asked mom to drive. She hops in and plops her purse of holding crocheting next to her on top of the engine.

Krit gets in, sits down in the middle, and immediately stands up inside the van with 40 pounds of purse hanging by a crochet hook.

        The girlfriend didn't last...

I just looked up galaxy stitch and I like it, but would like it better if there were a way to make galaxy ribbing. I just like the ribbed look. I'll have to research that. I have been focused on resume-writing and such, so I have neglected the scarf the last few days.

There is a book out there that has a bunch of different quilt blocks in shapes that are anything BUT squares! Hexagons, pentagons, stars and so on. They are both knitted and crocheted.

            My goals this year are:

-Finish the blanket I started (the one in my first post)
-Make a scarf with the granny squares that I made while I was practicing getting the technique juuust right.
-Make up a bunch of squares from the book I linked to!

It is a nice one & I was very surprised at how fast the scarf grew too. I made a long one for a 6'4" guy

I also think Patiokitty's owls are too cute too. I may have to have a go at one for my mother

OUCH! Getting a hook rammed into your flesh sure ruins our day.

Currently doing a baby afghan in diagonal stripes. It's supposedly summer here (although we've only had a couple of hot days so far) so I usually try to work on something small this time of year. Nothing worse than sweltering under an enormous blanket when it's pushing 40 degrees C outside, usually with a dog or two on top of the blanket just for the hell-uv-it.

I've just found a pattern for a great basket-weave pattern scrap afghan, so a chance to whittle down the stash a bit. It uses an extra-large hook and 3 strands at a time, so it should work up very quickly.

I've got a pattern for mug/cup cozies that look like owls or puppies and I've done a couple of those recently. Anyone that wants the patterns, let me know and I'll post the links, they're dead simple and take an hour to make.

Housemate bought me a heap of advanced crochet books for Xmas - interlocked crochet, advanced tunisian including double-end technique, Irish lace etc. I'm going to have to get rid of some stash before I can justify buying more wool to start some of these projects...

At the moment I have a ginormous plastic tub full of things I've done in the last two years. Everything from queen-bed sized blankets to the mug cozies and pot holders. I'm gearing up for some market stalls come wintertime.
