Skype compromised

    Skype compromised

    So... I logged off Skype and was getting ready for bed. I took a look at my mail messages and notice a notification (Supposedly from Skype, and it does appear to be accurate) about my new email address..that I did not set up. So I try to log back on to Skype... and can't.

    I have a second Skype account for a game I play, so I logged onto it, pulled up my other account (had done the friend request on both). Shows a ? by my other name. Seems my Skype account has been hacked somehow, and at least until I can get this straightened out.. DO not.. and I repeat do NOT contact that Skype account.
    Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

    Hm, this is the second time I've heard of someone's Skype account getting hacked this week. I wonder if something is going on.

      I don't know WHAT is going on. Sometimes I can sign in, sometimes I can't. Sometimes it shows me on (with a ?) by my name, sometimes it doesn't. I've changed my password SIX times.. the last four times with the following Tools :

      A random number generator for letters ( generate a number between 1 and 52. Over 27 and over is capital). A random number generator to see if each character past the first is a number, letter, or (in some cases) special characters (1 Letter and 2 number OR 1 Number, 2 Letter, 3 random special character).. with appropriate random rolls.

      Still doesn't help. I'll fix my email, leave, and have to fix it again when I get back. So *shrugs*

        If changing your password doesn't help, then odds are that your system is infected with something that's sending the new password to the "hacker".

        Only other way that could happen is a major compromise of account security on Skype's end. Possible, but less likely than your system being compromised somehow.

          That is what I figured, but neither Malwarebytes, Avast, or Avg detect anything. So I am at a loss.

            If you change your password somewhere else on a non-compromised computer, go back from the same computer and there still is something wrong, the chance is that the problem isn't at your site.
            Has the hacked email account been set to echo the emails to another account? That's possible to do at hotmail and gmail at least. I suppose other free mail accounts can be set the same way.
            That would be an easy and not very technical way to keep getting the new mails about the changes.

              Skype's official response is.. it is a bug.. not a hack like they thought. Apparently there is some sort of odd conflict between my computer and Skype. One they have not yet seen before. Even though I log all the way out when I am done with Skype, occasionally it will leave me logged in. Which is why it didn't matter what password I used, etc. They are trying to figure out how this bug happened (leave it to me to find something totally new lol). However, it means the account is not compromised.. just that sometimes it show me on when I am not, won't let me log in (on occasion), and sometimes just shows a (?).

              Tl;DR - Leave it to me to find a bug Skype doesn't know how to fix..yet.
