I wish they had kept SMA going, it was one of the better Abridged series out there. Psycho Rei-chan was the best

I said "one of the better" series. DBZA is on higher plane of anime parody existence.

          Muffin button.

That's all I know of DBZA.

Y'know, I had a depressing thought linking these anime remakes going on to a rather doom and gloomy panel I went to at A-Kon.

The reason things like Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Sailor Moon Crystal exist is the anime industry is in dire straits in Japan. They're struggling to bring in new converts and they keep going back to the well of otaku-pandering and remakes.

And then I thought, well as long as they're doing remakes, can we please get a makeover for Lodoss? Sure it's not as dated as SBY or SM, but an update would be awesome. Oh, and just for fun, and because if you really squint at it you could say it was a parody of SBY, Irresponsible Captain Tylor.

Just in case, y'know, y'all were wondering.

Possibly, though there's no shortage of good anime today. The success of FMA: Brotherhood and DBZ Kai showed that there is an interest in going back and making anime that follows the source material and does away with all the unnecessary changes and endless filler. In the case of Sailor Moon, we had 2 completely different versions of the story, not counting the musicals and the live action series. After several different takes on the manga, it's definitely time for a faithful adaptation. And don't forget that there have been Western influences on Japan's entertainment industry since the end of WWII. Looking at what's been trending in American TV and cinema over the last several years, anyone can see the popularity of remakes and reboots.

                  Rei-chan!!! *squees*

Loved her transformation, and loved how they did Ami and Usagi's dual transformation.

Is it wrong to be disappointed in Jadeite though? I don't feel much satisfaction in his defeat this episode....

Nah, it's not wrong. His defeat was pretty lackluster, Rei's complete awesomeness aside. Since Crystal so closely follows the manga, though, I was actually kind of expecting it. The boss and mini-boss battles there were very one-punch-and-down too. On the other hand, he's a skeezy bastard in this ep, so I wasn't exactly sad to see him go either.

I found this in an image search and thought I would share it, I can't wait until she gets it in the show.

Mamoru definitely looks better in this one than the original, then again everyone does.

That's pretty much how the manga went. We'd get a minion for 2 or 3 chapters rather than 10 episodes, then they usually wound up dead with little fanfare. The sailor senshi swat them like bugs, and individual senshi have a lot of power for doing the job instead of needing to weaken an enemy for Sailor Moon to finish off (they also have loads more attacks). In the Dark Kingdom arc, the very first thing most of the girls do when they are introduced is murder a bad guy. Just watched the new one, and it was a great episode. Mars has a nice henshin sequence, and yay for Phobos and Deimos finally being important in the anime (or at least, they will be as it goes on). Jadeite is my stepdaughter's favorite of the Four Kings (she thinks he's the cutest), so she'll be sad to see him gone at episode 3. On the bright side, Hulu has finally decided to show the previews for the next episode.

Bah at Hulu, who wants to pay to watch ads? I got premium at Crunchyroll.

One thing I'm kind of 'ehhhhhh' about that is hinted toward in this episode is the whole Senshi/Shitennou thing. I know it was alluded to in the manga, but I worry about it turning into four more exactly-the-same versions of the whole 'doomed lovers separated by literal time and space' story.

Now, if it's handled the way it was in the most-recent musical, I'll be happy because I absolutely *loved* the way it was done there. No one's personalities were sacrificed for the sake of Random Romantic Sideplots (TM). Kunzite and Rei were standoffish toward Minako and Jadeite respectively, Ami was severely weirded out and conflicted about Zoisite...

Basically, if it must happen, I hope it happens like that.
