  • Does anyone use Hulu?

So we're spending about $80 a month on satellite TV, when the only thing we watch is Doctor Who. Hulu runs about a tenth of that, and also has Doctor Who.

What we're trying to figure out is if it's same day/simulcast, so we'd see new episodes the same time they show up on the BBC; if it's current but delayed, so we'd see it later that day or week; or if it's just like on Netflix where it doesn't turn up until the DVDs are for sale?

Because I didn't see anything about it on the website, but if we can see the new episodes the same day they broadcast, we're dropping our satellite.

Nope, Hulu doesn't have streaming rights to the new season so they're not simulcasting it.

iTunes and Amazon have the streaming rights and are simulcasting but they charge like $8(?!) an episode.

Which leaves you with convincing the online BBC Player that you're in the UK.

Tunnelbear will let you watch BBC programming for a very good price.

We gave up satellite and use Hulu, Netflix and sometimes Tunnelbear.

Netflix has a bunch of Dr Who, new and old. :-)

I'm not sure how fast they are about new episodes, though.

Netflix gets new episodes about the same time you can buy them on DVD at Wal-Mart.

So not much help when it comes to weekly gatherings to watch the new ones.

Hulu is worth it for me for some of the shows that I don't get a chance to watch because I work evenings. This includes WWE (since the WWE Network doesn't put their flagship shows up for something like two months because of their streaming contract with Hulu), and for other shows like Sleepy Hollow, Gotham, and to re-watch older seasons of Q.I., and the entire series of MXC.

I have Hulu and Netflix. They're inexpensive and worth it.

I'm thinking about cutting the cord. There just isn't much that I can't get on them, and I seldom watch TV the day it is aired.

For us, it's really just about Doctor Who and getting together with our friends. Kabe and I haven't been able to do a lot with our friends, so this has been nice the past few weeks. It's just the extra $80 a month that's a pain.

We have Hulu and Netflix (and Crunchyroll for anime) and killed our cable well over a year ago, may be closer to 2 years now. It's been worth it, we weren't watching anything on cable anyway. How soon Hulu gets new episodes depends entirely on the series from what we've seen. When Cosmos was airing, new episodes would be available the day after they aired on TV. But I know South Park and Law & Order: SVU get new episodes a couple weeks after they air on the networks. Not sure about Dr. Who.

They only just now made "The Day of the Doctor" and "The Time of the Doctor" available. I get the impression they may not make Season 8 available until after it's finished its run.

They do, however, also make available the short "prequel" films that preceded some episodes, so that's a plus if you don't know where else to find them.

Unless there's a new series by that title, I can easily understand why it comes out the day after airing - Cosmos (with Carl Sagan) was originally aired before there was a Hulu or a Netflix, so it's already in reruns.

I was referring to the new Cosmos hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. New episodes aired on Fox (I think) on Sunday nights, Hulu had them available for streaming by Monday.
