If complaining to the local postmaster doesn't solve the problem, work your way up the chain all the way to the Postmaster general.

If that fails, write a letter to your congressmen and representative petitioning to investigate the problem of misdelivered mail. This is called getting out the big guns.

When I worked in the church office, we often got mail which should have been delivered to one of the nearby apartment complexes......I suspected it was the one next door, because their street address number was two numbers off from ours.

Back in the "stone age" of mail delivery ie. pre ZIP code in the early 1960's, I lived on a street named after a state.

I was sent a B-day card from my Aunt who lived maybe a mile away from us (in the same major city) one year at for some reason, even though the address had the full state name street address, city name and FULL correct state name on the envelope, when I finally got the card ( about 2 weeks late) there were several post marks indicating that said card had actually been routed through street name state NOT true state.

I also been getting mail (from a house about a mile from me) that had the same street number but different street name. Maybe every 6 months there is a mix-up, and I go to the post office and dump their mail there. Though there was a magazine subscription I wasn't getting every week, so I imagine the other people were getting the mag but not doing anything to see that I get it.

I remember one day a book came in the mail for someone in our area but didn't have the same street number or same street, or name anything like ours. Mom wanted to go to the post office the next day anyway, so we took the book with us.

Mom started to complain to the manager about our mail not getting delivered and then she said, "I've lived her for 30 years an there was an American Post Man who never made mistakes..." knowing her, she meant "white". Anyway, while mom was complaining and mentioned the book, the manager was asking for the book so it could be given to the carrier, who was about to leave (and I understood the receipient of the book did call to complain she did not get the book the day before) and mom was going on and on so I had to hand the book to the manager.

I'd suggest as a one-time thing taking a batch (especially if it contains critical items) to the doctor's office and letting them know that their stuff is being sent to your home. Some of what you've been getting could be BIG TROUBLE for the post office, since there are laws against indiscriminate distribution. The patient records alone could have the posties facing an angry HIPPApotamus. As for the prescription drugs, if another shipment arrives at your home, call the DEA. They take a VERY dim view of controlled substances winding up where they don't belong.

Bumping this one because we talked to the postmaster. He told us that because the Dr's office isn't in their GPS system yet, that all they had to do was deliver it "as close as possible" which as it turns out is our house. I asked him what we are supposed to do then. He said we can either deliver their mail ourselves, drive it back to the post office re-mail it and hope it doesn't come back, or go to UPS or Fedex and mail it to them. Hubs is planning on taking a day off next week to talk to the state's postmaster general.

Meanwhile in the past week we've gotten, 2 more zulily shipments, tax forms for 2 different doctors, a trade newspaper, business checks and another delivery of medications. Plus a nice flower delivery lady almost brought me flowers, but they were for one of the doctors.

You might want to mention HIPPA to the PMG and how their branch is kinda violating it my KNOWINGLY delivering to the wrong address.. if that doesn't work.. go to the media

Generally I just drive everything back to the post office and remail it. With the medication, I hand delivered it to the Dr's office. I told the receptionist that we have been getting their mail. She laughed and shrugged it off with a "what'cha gonna do?"

Next time ask talk to whoever is in charge, if the receptionist is just going to laugh it off.

Do they seriously expect you to pay for UPS or FedEx because they can't deliver mail to the right place? Given the nature of some of the items, I'd probably deliver it to the office myself, if it wasn't too far out of the way, only because it's not their fault. I would insist on talking to whoever is actually in charge of the office every time (not just the receptionist), though. They're the ones who should be raising hell with the post office.

It's only a few blocks away - not really too far except it's in a direction that I never go. I wouldn't mind heading over there once a week to drop off mail except that I am not a mail carrier and I don't want to be legally responsible for anything.

Hopefully talking to the state PMG will fix things.

I wonder though why the doctor's office hasn't complained at all?

It doesn't matter how close it is or how easy it'd be to deliver. That's not the point. It's THEIR job, not yours, and that half assed lazy "explanation" is totally unacceptable.

Excuse me? The PO is to deliver to the addressee, not some random address because it is CLOSE enough. Report their asses now.

My father, before his death several years ago, was the local postmaster for the town I grew up in.

If someone had come to see him with the story you've (OP) told us, he'd have had every employee of that PO in his office getting their behinds chewed.

Agreed! We're talking HIPAA violations here! I really hope the Postmaster General cracks down on this and the office gets their mail like they're supposed to.
