  • Wanting volunteers.

Sadly they would be unpaid interns..but I have come up with a base concept for a Board Game. I need people who are willing to add to the concept, or test the concept, or both. All I can offer is that if this Board Game comes into being (after the concept is finished it will go to kickstarter) is recognition for the help AND a free copy of the game if it does get made. Right now, all I have is a crude drawing (an artist not am I), and concepts for each room/hero. If possible I would prefer if there is volunteers from this board I would like to either talk in the chat of this board or Skype. Anybody want to enter the madness that is Dark Mansion (working title..subject to change)

Also IF the board game becomes very popular, the ones that help me with the concept and game testing WILL get a percentage of any profit (depends on how many people, etc).

careful with the name, dark manor is an app-game.

I hit google because I swear I worked doing beta testing on a clue type game with a similar name to dark manor, something like 7 or 8 years back. [No not the Luigi's Nintendo thing, I don't do platform]

I could contribute some ideas, I'm a pretty avid board gamer. Is it a fantasy board game? (sounds like it from rooms/heroes). I actually just got a cool board game myself, Nexus Ops. You play as one of four corporations fighting to control an alien moon that has a rare mineral on it. Pretty awesome. I've also played Dungeon! and a few other more complex board games.

And for title ideas, how about Nightmare Manor or Shadowhall Manor?

Here is the base idea, which is subject to change.

Everybody plays as a heir to a vast fortune that has been called to the Manor. When everybody is gathered for the reading of the will... the Manor mysteriously locks (the door out and the windows anywhere become extremely hard to move or break. Each will take a specific amount of Strength to break.. The goal is to find a way out of the Manor .. alive.

Each room offers something for everybody, BUT it offers the most to a specific hero. , you can only visit a specific room once every third turn. I randomly rolled to see if each character is male or female.

Each has stats. 3 in each except their specialty. One stat of each character is higher then his/her specialty. The room/stat is..

Johnny Nomed - Johnny recently got out of the military, and is stronger then any other character. The room which benefits him most is a private gym in the Manor.

The gym will increase strength for all characters who visit (everytime you visit)

              ((To be continued))

Maybe also add clues to the rooms that can only be found by cooperating.

Like there's a clue of words but the one who can decipher/read it (if it's in a different language) has to stand on Johnny's shoulders to reach the bit of paper on a shelf where it is.

So far getting some great suggestions. Ok, here are the stats.

                  Strength
                  Lore
                  Agility
                  Investigation
                  Engineering

Now there is also attack and health but this would change under certain circumstances .. and not only taking damage (health). Here is where I run into problems.

I want 10 rooms. Five rooms per floor. Each stat has one room per floor, two floors. So that 1 room in each floor will be based on strength, Lore, etc. And yes cooperating will benefit everybody, since you would add your stats (except attack and health) together. So.. stat names and room names that go with the stat. On the next post I will go over what can be done during a players turn. Then obstacles, and then 'other' dangers.

Now in addition to be a board game, it will come with cards. People would draw cards in addition to having a stat increase IF they successfully pass the obstacles and any creatures.

Does this take place in the SC-verse, where math doesn't apply? Or do you mean 5 rooms per floor, 2 floors?
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

                      Doh, yeah. Fixing now.

Here is actually what I meant.

Five rooms per floor. Each stat(Not counting attack and health) has one room per floor, two floors

If possible, keep the room-stat connection secret from the players. Perhaps have it disclosed by a card. Or better, have the room-stat connection be random for each game. Maybe first player to enter a room draws a stat card that becomes the stat for that room.

Makes sense, and makes the job a bit easier. Then I don't have to name a room something that goes with a stat.

So far everybody has given me some great ideas. Keep them coming. Here soon I will post what a character can do during their turn.

I had another thought about stat cards for the rooms. You mentioned having a gym for the strength stat. Rather a gym room, you could have a stat card say the room has some gym equipment set up in it.

For the lore stat it could be a library or a stack of books. Or maybe an old person talking about stuff (lore).

Agility could be some roaches on the floor you have to dance around.

Engineering could be a Lego set or some other kit that needs assembling.

I'm not sure about investigation. Detective novels? Puzzles?

Actually investigation will be a trap specialist. They will be able to find and remove traps easier then others. Each room has a potential to have a trap and/or a monster.
Now of course since everybody has an investigation stat, they CAN find traps.. but not as easily as the main investigator.

Ok.. hero cards/stats/ what they can do each turn.

Each hero has the same amount of move points. These can be broken up in any way you want, except after fighting a monster (if you don't flee that is). After battling a monster all movement points go away until next turn. Cards/special affects, etc can change all of this however.

During a turn you can move to a room, change rooms (if within your movement range), search (items would of course be found easier by the investigator). You can attack, use a equipment/special card, OR boost the stat that the room is attuned to.

If in a room with another person you can give them cards, trade cards, or heal them if you have a card that can heal.

You roll as many dice as you have strength points, if you do not kill a monster it gets to retaliate. Then it can attack, and if it does not kill you, you get a retaliate also.
