I got the usual cookies and candy from coworkers.

I also got a Kindle gift card from my brother. It allowed me to reset my Kindle to factory defaults (since my ex had registered it in his name when I inherited it from my mom [still not sure why]) and re-buy the few books I had on it. It was a great Christmas present to see [Ghel's] Kindle up in the corner.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

Christmas is usually pretty light on the presents in my family, but we changed that a bit this year.

My big gift from my wife was a 114mm telescope with tripod, a motor to keep it moving locked on a target star/planet/asteroid the size of Wyoming barreling towards us (points for the South Park reference), and set of filters/lenses.

She got a pair of turquoise earrings with a matching necklace, but that's going back. The necklace is practically a choker on her, and that's not the way it's shown in the display...and my wife is NOT fat.

We got my dad and his wife some movie tickets, BeauJo's Pizza gift cards, iTunes gift card and a Gamestop gift card.

They got us some Pyrex cooking dishes, some Fandago gift cards (we like movies), and my dad got me a gag gift of a super sized Reese's PBC package. Two PB cups, 1 pound (little less than half a KG), and utterly delicious.

      But the BEST GIFT -

My wife and I work with a local "vintage" mini schnauzer rescue group - http://cominischnauzerrescue.com/ .

We are foster parents, and our 3 dogs (2 schnoodles and 1 mini schnauzer) are foster siblings. Our first foster, a nearly toothless (only had 5 left!) 10 year old named JoJo got his forever home on Christmas Eve.

Tomorrow, we will meet and take home our next foster, an 8 year old named Willie. It was tough to say bye to JoJo, because he was nothing but a sweetheart who you couldn't tell was 10 aside from his lack of teeth, but at least we get to help another dog.

15 inch ceramic pizza stone, new pajama bottoms, a couple of shirts, $50 Kohl's card, $50 gift card for some liquor outfit, $25 card for The Melting Pot Restaurant, $90 cash, candy, and various trinkets.

Also got a nice little bonus gift at work. When I came in this morning, I found a Christmas card with my name on it tucked under the keyboard that had 3 scratch tickets in it. Two of them were losers but the 3rd was a $40 winner!

I got the best stuff this year:

I got a new tool bag, the boys at work are going to be soooo jealous.

I got the joy of watching my son dance around in glee at his new tablet, that that grandfolks and me all chipped in and got him.

And now I have two days off my life, while my MIL takes my boy to her family Christmas, and I don't have to work.
Pain and suffering are inevitable...misery is optional.

I picked up a few used Wii games for myself with a small portion of the cash that Grandma sends every year. I've got my eye on a chest freezer for the rest of it.

I also got a whole week at the house by myself. I sent Little Shirts and Baby Shirts with Mrs. Shirts to visit her family in New Mexico for Christmas. I had time to do some deep cleaning in the house (vacuum out heat vents, caulk drafts around dining room floor and around windows, scrub the tub, etc.), record a new insurance video, and tackle some projects I've wanted to do for a long time.

Our gifts are still waiting under the tree for my family to come home and open them. I'm excited to see Little Shirts see his new Duplo set and ice cream playset, and I'm really excited to see how Mrs. Shirts reacts to her new Sesame Street / Big Bang Theory crossover T-shirt.

And I got Mom a Flintstones DVD set. That was her favorite show when she was a kid.
I suspect that... inside every adult (sometimes not very far inside) is a bratty kid who wants everything his own way.
