  • Best ideas for Bacon!!

Ok, so it's the king of breakfast meats to many of us. It also can be used in all kinds of other ways. I was wondering what creative and delicious ways YOU use bacon.

    I'll go first--

    Bacon stuffed mushroom caps!! Delicious.

Bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed chicken breasts

Bacon jam (seriously, I have to make and can at least 4-8 jars of this stuff a time, my boyfriend eats it with a spoon straight from the jar!)

Braised pork belly (still technically bacon!!)

Those are just the top three things I remember getting the best reviews.

A variation on this is 'Hunter's Chicken' - chicken breast wrapped in bacon, grated cheddar cheese sprinkled lavishly on top, baked in the oven for 15 minutes, then bbq sauce poured over and baked for another 20 minutes.

Another one for the bacon jam recipe, I believe my boyfriend would do the same.

My partner justs eats it in his sandwich. We just use shredded bacon on our pizza.

            Jam recipe here too please.

I do the chicken wrapped in bacon kinda thing too - wrap the chicken, cook for 20 mins dry then add gravy for another 20 mins. Friend is a very good cook and loves it when I do that. Comes out juicy and tender.

Mrs. TGK likes bacon-wrapped scallops. The jam sounds good to me. Recipe, please. I'll share some of my jam and jelly recipes for it.

My ideas are pretty boring, yet yummy when it comes to bacon...

Pigs in a blanket - wrap some sausages in bacon and fry, serve with onions and relish, or why not on a piece of baguette with homemade dressing (sour cream + mustard + garlic + bearnaise essence)?

Take a small bundle of green asparaguses, wrap 1-2 slices of bacon around the stems, bake in the oven for 15 minutes. Makes a lovely side dish for, say, chicken or turkey!

Oh, and ETA: Would love to get that bacon jam recipe, too. Preferably in metrics if possible.

Sounds good. I'll try that when my asparagus starts growing. What temp for the oven?

Bacon is a food group in this house. Mostly just bacon with whatever other items for a meal, but it gets used in stuff too.

Bacon wrapped brown sugar glazed chicken bits are a popular dish for gaming nights. Takes a fair bit of prep, but they're very very good.

Sometimes I add bits of bacon to stir fry, and also to macaroni and cheese (nom nom nom).

BLT sandwiches are an occasional meal. Boyfriend does a Sam Vimes style sandwich, where he just waves the veggies at the bread and bacon (ok, not really, but it's close).

                      Bacon on salads. And pizza.

I also use bacon grease to oil my pan for cooking eggs, adds a lovely bit of extra flavor. Huh, never occurred to me before, but I bet bacon grease would be lovely used as a substitute for shortening in biscuits. Bacon grease is also used to maintain the seasoning on my cast iron pans.

I would love to see the bacon jam recipe also, it sounds interesting.

A bacon rose for Valentine's is also nice. Or how about the Bacon Turtle Burger?

I saw Bacon Flavored Hot Chocolate at the coffee store today.

My mom used to pour off the grease after cooking bacon, save it in a cup which was kept in the refrigerator, and every now and then use it as a spread on bread.
