  • Some graphic design advice.

so I am designing a lifecounter for magic the gathering, or any game really. I'm going to use the same technique as I did for the resin coasters I've made in the past and drill holes for dials.

I'm happy with the layout but am unsure which colors/fonts I want for the numbering and the background.

Now the art is just a placeholder for now, I'll be switching up the art and possibly doing custom ones. here is the layout

for reference sake this is what the resin coasters look like

For the background, perhaps try and match the upper portion and/or dominant shade of the image you use for each. For the numbers, it would presumably be based on the background - consider colors that will stand out, but not be exact opposites. E.g. dark blue background with white numbers would look nice (but not a 100% contrast like orange). Or, for the sake of simplicity, just go with old reliable: Black numbers on brights and pastels, White numbers on deep/dark shades.

I want to make a template I can just put the image in and not have to change the numbers each time.

How big are these going to be?

In that case -- Probably something simple -- Black bg/white numbers or the opposite. Both work well.
