I know there's been talk recently of putting the Designated Hitter in the National League.
And there have been "complaints" about the game being too long, boring, etc.
Honestly, I don't have a real problem with a "pitcher's duel" or a good hitting show.
I understand the argument for shortening the games, because there's no clock.
It's a "microwave society" though. For some reason, people are willing to pay increased ticket prices for a shorter game.
But here's a few of the things (and some of them sound a little old-school) that I'd like to see that I think would make the game better:
1. "Specialist" pitchers. Think about how this works now. Teams now have 7th, 8th, and 9th inning guys.
I don't care too much for this, because now all managers really want their pitchers to do is just get through 6 innings.
2. Pitch counts. Don't care for these. This eliminates (or greatly reduces) the possibility of high-strikeout, high inning games. Especially in an era where some batters are taught to foul off pitches if they look close, but the batter doesn't think they can hit it. It also greatly reduces the possibility of one of the more impressive feats in baseball -- the no-hitter.
3. I'd like to see more "old school" baseball strategy sometimes. I'm not talking about a "straight steal" of home (a lot of pitchers will pitch from the stretch now with guys on 3b to prevent this). What I WOULD like to see, especially from the team I follow, is guys laying down bunts with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Basically a suicide squeeze. Especially with a lefty at the plate.
4. I could get behind technology helping umpires call balls/strikes, as long as it's done in a sound, reasonable way.
